My Perfect Pantry: 150 Easy Recipes from 50 Essential Ingredients: A Cookbook

Description:

Chef, restaurateur, and Food Network Iron Chef Geoffrey Zakarian shows you how to use your pantry to jumpstart any meal.

Forget exotic condiments and specialty foods. With a working base of 50 readily available ingredients, from oats and honey to almonds and canned chickpeas, you will always have the makings of a delicious home-cooked meal. Whether cooking in his world-class restaurants, on
Iron Chef, or judging the offerings on Chopped, Geoffrey knows every great meal starts with a trip to the pantry first for inspiration. And when you bring home your fresh produce and proteins, you’ll have 150 recipes at the ready, and many of these can be made with pantry ingredients alone.

You’ll see a simple can of beans as a Smoky Black Bean Bisque or coconut milk as Spicy Coconut Tempura Shrimp. Standard back-of-the-cupboard fare like almonds become crispy crust on a broiled pork chop; peanut butter lends itself beautifully to a spicy slaw, cider vinegar gives great flavor to a chicken main as well as to donuts, and mustard transforms a a pot roast. Throughout, you’ll find quick but ingenious tips for each of the 50 ingredients, like how to use Earl Grey teabags to infuse ice cubes or a syrup for French toast.

The Perfect Pantry makes it so easy for your everyday staples to lead, rather than support, the creation of extraordinary meals. Geoffrey gives you the shopping list you need, as well as the road map for making the most of what you have on hand.

Outstanding full color inspiration/information!

C.Q. · February 13, 2019

1) The fifty pantry items are "everyday" staples, often with store brand information. (example: oatmeal, mustard, tabasco sauce, bread crumbs). Information on each item includes history and tips for usage/storage. Interesting reading.2) Three recipes for each staple do require additional ingredients, but again they are "everyday," requiring no difficult searches for the new or strange, and leaving no unusable leftovers.3) Clear and easy directions produce delicious results. My current favorite is a roast carrot recipe, which I have also used in his suggested tomato preparation. A real keeper!4) Every pantry item and every recipe is shown in full color. It is a tempting array of dishes which are easily within time/skill range of an interested home cook, but suggest more sophisticated hands.I consider this to be one of my better recent cookbook purchases!!!

Love the concept of this new book from Geoffrey Zakarian ...

Love the concept of this new book from Geoffrey Zakarian who takes ordinary household pantry items and turns them in to extraordinary dishes that will impress but are also easy enough for a basic home cook like me to try. The Maple Buttermilk Pork Roast won over my husband and my 6 and 4 year old and the Chunky Arugula and Horseradish Condiment gave that extra something special to our weeknight grilled chicken. The recipes are varied - in addition to many family favorites like Meatballs, Chicken Fingers and Meatloaf, there are excellent dessert ideas, inventive salad combinations, and enticing snacks like the Sweet and Spicy Popcorn. I can't wait to try them all!!

I purchased your cook book “My Perfect Pantry” from Amazon as an intended Christmas present

G.V. · January 10, 2015

My husband and I are currently unemployed. Therefore, we are on a tight budget. Groceries are at the bottom of the list. I purchased your cook book “My Perfect Pantry” from Amazon as an intended Christmas present. Leafing through it, I decided to try a few recipes with ingredients I already had in my pantry. We loved them so much; it never was given as a present. (Sorry, couldn’t afford to buy another one to give away.)The recipes give us a break from ordinary budget meals. The price, even with buying additional items, is still within our means. We eat proportionately so we have plenty of leftovers. I have made your meatloaf using elk and pork. Wonderful!Thank you for a new way to cook stuff from the pantry with lots of great tastes.

Wholesome and practical

This is not one of those picture heavy books of food you will never eat, or a list of restaurant food that takes a comme and two prep cooks to make. Its a straightforward, no nonsense book about what makes sense in his home kitchen and what the makes when its no one but family and he doesnt have to be "Iron Chef". I am looking forward to making some of the biscuits from his recipe for chicken pot pie and will make tuna nicoise this week. Some of his pantry ingredients would molder in my kitchen and he missed some of our favorites like chipotles. It depends on what kind of food is native to your area, but 90% of it is on the money.

Brilliant Layout: The ABCs of an Essential Pantry

L. · October 11, 2020

The first thing I did was read the list of the 50 essential ingredients, of which I had just about every single one. None were weird or made me wonder where I'd get the items. I wondered how he planned to use each ingredient, especially instant espresso, tea, and popcorn. Simple. Each item is alphabetically listed with accompanying recipe(s) to follow. It's truly an ABC book for cooks. Are there additional items needed to cook most recipes? Of course, but the point of the book is to show cooks how to keep a well-stocked pantry. When planning a menu, the basics will already be in the pantry. I haven't cooked any of the recipes yet, but by going through the book and perusing the recipes, they are easy to make and I like the combination of ingredients used in each.

You need a lot more than 50 pantry items to make these recipes.

A.M. · January 23, 2017

I saw a review of this cookbook on a national tv show before Christmas. The reviewer said you only need the 50 pantry items listed in the book, fresh produce and protein and you can make 150 recipes. It sounded intriguing so I ordered it. The dust cover does indicate that with the 50 essential ingredients, "when you bring home fresh produce and protein, you'll have 150 recipes at the ready"". To make these recipes though, you need a lot more than the 50 pantry items. For example, 3 vinegars (cider, red wine, and white wine) are listed as "essential". Yet the recipes use 8 vinegars. Cider vinegar is used in 5 recipes, red wine vinegar in 9, white wine in 10. Sherry vinegar, a non-essentially is used in 6 recipes, balsamic in 4, and champagne vinegar in 1 recipe. I wish he had suggested substitutes that were in the "essential" list. Yellow mustard is an "essential item" used in 3 recipes. Yet, Dijon mustard, a non-essential, is used in 14 recipes. There are at least three recipes that use each of the "essential items". But most require a lot more ingredients than fresh produce, protein, and these 50 pantry items. There are also spices, powders, and oil listed - a total of 19 "foundation items" which is a useful list. However the spice used the most, other than salt and pepper, seemed to be paprika which isn't included in the foundation items. It appears that the "perfect pantry" concept is just a gimmick to sell cookbooks. I haven't made any of the recipes yet. I only saw a few that I was interested in. I might be overly critical, but this cookbook isn't what it is portrayed as being. I would love to find a cookbook full of recipes that don't require buying a lot of pantry items that i will only use a couple of times. I wish this was that cookbook.

great buy
