This book, The Writer: A Thriller" by James Patterson and JD Barker is a masterclass in psychological suspense that will keep you guessing until the final page. It is sure to hit #1 on the best-seller list.As a writer myself, I found this thriller particularly resonant. The character of Denise absolutely captivated me—she brilliantly embodies the shadow side that lurks within all creative minds. Patterson and Barker have crafted a character who is both terrifying and uncomfortably relatable, forcing us to confront the darker impulses that can fuel artistic expression.The crime narrative itself is expertly constructed, with twists and turns that consistently upend your expectations. Just when you think you've figured out where the story is heading, the authors pull the rug out from under you with shocking revelations that somehow still feel earned rather than contrived.What truly elevates this thriller above others in the genre is its utterly unique conclusion. Enjoyable read, awesome job with characters and the plot was outstanding. I truly thought I had it figured out and knew how it would end, but Mr. Barker and Mr. Patterson pulled a fast one on me and loved it. Worth the read.

I definitely think Mr. Barker’s own plots/storylines are so much better than the ones he writes with Mr. Patterson. Previous books by James Patterson were the Michael Bennett and Alex Cross Series and, of course, any books written with JD Barker. They’ve all received 4/5 stars. I’ve stopped reading any other James Patterson books since he calls the people who write for him “contributors” and will not call them co-authors. Just irks me.First JD Barker book with Christine Daigle was Heavy are the Stones (Nov ‘24 - 4 Stars).First JD Barker book with E.J. Findorff was We Don’t Talk About Emma (Feb ‘25 - 2 Stars). I won’t read any more books with EJ Findorff.Earned Double Kindle Reward Points with this purchase.I Can feel the build-up of tension that Mr Barker is so good at right away. Interesting plot connecting a past case with a current one. POW ! Watch-out what’s coming ! There was actually two spots in the book, where I actually had to stop reading because I couldn’t believe what I read! Mr Barker made a mystery tale very engrossing with the twists and excitement.BEST ENDING OF A BOOK I’VE EVER READ !!! BRAVO MR BARKER !!!

Enjoyed the intrigue and twists and turns - Then ending waa bizarre and not I liked - Had a hard time with the killing narratives but suspenseful an good insight into the deviousness of Denise - Its a book club pick so discussion will be interesting.

This is the same exact story that I just began reading again under a different title....The Imperfect Murder....I bought them both....loved the story but not twice....seems a bit deceptive....
Unexpected Ending
The plot twisted & turned. It kept me reading until the very end. I was definitely not expecting that ending at all.
Solid read with some good plot twists
While I expected a twist at the end, based on the blurb on the cover, I still enjoyed the ending. It wrapped up a nice reading experience over the whole book, which I enjoyed reading over a two-day period. The characters are interesting and draw you in to the narrative, and the main plot twist about half way through makes you think you've got it all figured out, only to realize there's more twists to come (including the ending). It's well written and an easy read, and I enjoyed this book.
