5.0 out of 5 stars She gets it now...
My daughter is 10 years old and I have kept her hair naturally curly. She is mixed and gorgeous. She was at school and a little girl told her, " You need to tell your mommy to perm your hair, its a mess." She came home crying because this little girl, who is like her (the girl is african-american) said that to her. I talked to her about it but I don't think she believed me when I told her that her hair was beautiful and special. I came to good ole' Bolo and saw this book. I bought it for her and when it came we read it together. She smiled at the similarities between her and the little girl in the book. Like how she asked her mommy to stop doing her hair until the ouchies went away, the same as she does with me, or that fact that every hair style in the book has been done to her hair too. She LOVES her hair now. And she wants more books about little girls' hair. This is hard but I am looking right now for another one. This book is an inspiration to all little girls of color or mixed race. It truly has been for my daughter.
5.0 out of 5 stars Cute Book About Loving Oneself and the Skin You’re In
Simple straight-forward book about loving the hair you have and celebrating it despite its challenges. Cute illustrations.
5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect
My granddaughter love the book
5.0 out of 5 stars My girl loves this book!
My baby loves this book! Last month she was feeling discouraged about her hair because the girls at her daycare and the little girl she watches on tv have straighter hair. My girl has curly hair that I keep in cornrows most of the time. Her teacher alerted me that some of the kids have expressed curiosity about her hair, which I’m sure made baby girl feel uncomfortable. But once I read this book a few times (at her request), her confidence soared! She now looks forward to me braiding her hair and she loves the different designs I do. Books like these are very important to have around to show our kids they are unique and beautiful the way God intended them to be. I love this book!
5.0 out of 5 stars Haircare IS part of life, great gift
This book is lovely, just lovely. The art work has to be seen, i can not tell you how captivating the art work is. Cute story. It is hard to find any little girl of color who could not relate to the main character in the story, who did dislike having her hair done, but also did like how it looked once finished, as well as liked wearing her hair in a variety of ways. Hey, haircare is part of life. It just is. Makes a Great gift.
5.0 out of 5 stars awesome book for little girls
I wish I had this book as a child who had thick hair and "suffered" through everything that went along with that. My 4 year old granddaughter enjoys it. The illustrations are wonderful and she likes counting them (her own thing not part of the story lol). Also I enjoyed how the author showed the different styles which my granddaughter liked also. This book helps children to accept and appreciate their qualities. You won't be disappointed. I do have to add though ....in my childhood home my mother (rest in peace) wasn't as calm as this mom. I'm sure other ladies remember that too lol.
4.0 out of 5 stars Great Video reading book from Iraq
I ordered this book to read to my 7 year old daughter while station in Mosul, Iraq. First, the book was shipped right away and came in right on time. I read the book and was happy with the illustrations and the way the book was written. It was perfect to read and hold it up to the camera and share the pictures with my daughter. It was important for me to show my daughter how beautiful she is and what makes her special. This book provided that. Then, I mailed the book and video back home. After receiving it in the mail and reading along with the video, she told me how much she loved the book. She reads it over and over again.
5.0 out of 5 stars A Cute Story of a Mother Teaching her Daughter to Love Herself
The recent Academy Awards brought a lot of attention to another story about a young African-American girl and her hair ordeals. This book was published 20 years ago, but I just discovered it recently when some other choices were sold out. The illustrations are colorful and realistic, as is the situation of a young girl starting to hate her own hair because her mother tugs on it so much as she styles it. This book could help parents or educators talk about hair problems that anyone could have and help children to appreciate their unique selves.
Great story
Great for building self love and appreciation for the African girl child. Bought this for my daughter's 9th birthday gift. Book came torn and package was not sealed. Not sure what happened between dispatch and getting to Japan.
I really needed this book!!
Being a mother of an afroitalian girl with afro hair can be sometimes difficult. Difficult explain to my daughter how beautiful are her hair , how important take care of them. Thanks to this book she can identify herself with the character and understand that sometime can be annoying but hair are part of her and her roots
Não gostei do produto porque veio danificado.
Todas as folhas estão manchadas e enrrugadas dando ao livro um aspecto de velho e com cheiro forte.
Difficult
Bought for my friend ‘s daughter who didn’t like having her hair combed, reading the book to her helped.
Great read for little girls
My daughter could relate to each page and it affirmed my words to her that 'she can style her hair in so many different ways'.
