At every death scene, Bennett says a prayer over the victim.
But recently, too many of the departed have been fellow cops.

Love the Michael Bennett series. He has 10 kids and now another one on the way with his new wife, Mary Catherine. With all this going on at the home front, he’s a top New York City detective solving crimes.

4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT read like always by Mr. James O’Born !

PARANOIA (BK # 17 MICHAEL BENNETT) (‘25 - 4 STARS) JAMES O. BORN & JAMES PATTERSONDESCRIPTION : Detective Michael Bennett has many admirers. One of them is killing cops and coming after his family. Detective Michael Bennett says a prayer every time he witnesses a death. In his line of work, it happens frequently. But Bennett’s attended so many police funerals lately, his deepening sadness is crossing into the zone of suspicion.  After the service for yet another fallen member of the NYPD, Inspector Celeste Cantor approaches. Though now an influential and high-ranking leader, she and Bennett worked patrol together in the Bronx years ago. “I want you to look at these deaths on special assignment,” Cantor says. “Report only to me.” Is someone actually targeting NYPD officers, or is the explanation even more disturbing? With a new baby on the way, Bennett’s protective instincts—as a father, a colleague, and a detective—have never been sharper. REVIEW :Previous books by this author were the Michael Bennett and Alex Cross Series and any books written with JD Barker. They’ve all received 4/5 stars. I’ve stopped reading any other James Patterson books since he calls the people who write for him “contributors” and will not call them co-authors. Just irks me. I’ve been reading the Michael Bennett series since 2007. The first 10 years were written by Michael Ledwidge and then James O. Born took over in 2017. I like them all.Feels like coming home to The Bennett Family and hear what they are all up to. At only 35% enjoying seeing all the pieces of the murder investigations and suicides come together. Hearing the murderers side is definitely interesting. There were a lot more characters than usual with their own story lines but the whole plot did come together for a very enjoyable read. I just wish the “family” storylines didn’t. end so abruptly in every book.

I like the Catholic family theme, the 10 kids theme and Michael Bennett bad ass cop . I think a a shoot off book about several of the kids would be interesting. Good read.

Patterson's kept me intrigued from beginning to end. All of the characters were well developed fit well in the story.

A real thriller with the right kind of mystery throughout the book and the ending was very surprising and the outcome unexpected. You will enjoy this page turning mystery from start to the very end.

This book was a step up from the previous few that were lame, unexciting, and a disappointment. This one was better and did have a few twists that were unexpected. Good work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another terrific novel

This is the 17th book in the Michael Bennett series. I've read all the other 16 from Step on a Crack to Crosshairs and have enjoyed them all. In my opinion this story is one of the best in the series. I was really surprised when we found out who was responsible. While the watch the news Bennett family seems a little exaggerated adopting 10 kids with the salary of a car in NYC it is a nice reminder that police officers have families at home and some of the same dynamics as the people they protect have. I give this book five stars. Kudos to both authors.

Probably one of the slowest & least suspenseful,& thrilling books in the Michael Bennett series - are they running out of ideas?

Paranoia. A great read

A.R. · June 25, 2025

Paranoia is a really good Michael Bennett thriller. James Patterson never disappoints with this excellent series of books. Great characters, great plot

Great addition to the series; definitely a one-more-page book

D.T.P. · February 27, 2025

The Bennett series may not be as long as the Cross series, but it's a great read over the 17 volumes. The latest addition adds in some corrupt cops, as well as the usual family dynamics between Bennett and his wife and kids. And a new partner at work. It's a solid read, with the one-more-page addiction coming into play early. I really like the Bennett series, and this is a lovely addition to it. Highly recommended.
