5.0 out of 5 stars Great for a gift or just to read for fun
Cabin Porn: Inspiration for Your Quiet Place Somewhere’ is an absolute treasure trove for anyone seeking inspiration for a serene and rustic retreat. The stunning visuals of cabins nestled in nature’s embrace are awe-inspiring. Each page invites you into a world of tranquility, showcasing diverse architectural styles and breathtaking landscapes. This book isn’t just about cabins; it’s a journey into the art of simplicity and finding solace in nature. The stories accompanying the images are captivating, sharing the personal journeys of individuals who found their haven in the woods, mountains, or by the lakeside.Whether you're an architect, a nature enthusiast, or simply someone dreaming of a quiet escape, this book offers an immersive experience that stirs the imagination. It's a source of creative ideas and a reminder of the beauty found in simplicity. The quality of the book itself is outstanding—beautifully bound and printed, making it a delightful addition to any coffee table or bookshelf. It's more than a book; it's an invitation to explore, dream, and perhaps embark on your journey to find that 'quiet place somewhere.' Highly recommended!
5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for lovers of cabins and small houses
“Cabin Porn,” edited by Zach Klein, with photos by Noah Kalina, and featuring stories by Steven Leckart, has become one of my favorite books. It’s largely a book of photographs (hence the saucy title), but unlike other books of photos, it isn’t a large-format “coffee table book,” which means I can more easily have it to browse on my office desk or nightstand. If you love cabins, and lust to build or have one of your own, this book is for you.The book is divided into nine sections, covering topics like bungalows, bunkhouses, treehouses, simple shelters, and yurts. These features are invariably well written, interesting, and feature people you’d like to get to know and hang out with. Each of the feature stories is followed by archives of photos related to the topic. Those photos are really the heart of the book, and they are simply captivating. The paper is thick, which I like, and the finish is matte, and though the photographs have great definition, the colors are often over-saturated. (A good comparison in terms of the color, finish, and paper is the Taschen series of photo books; but this one is superior to Taschen in quality.)The title of the book is named after the related website established by Zach Klein of the Beaver Brook School. It’s my least favorite thing about the book. Although I know that the word “porn” has been playfully adapted for years for other uses like “food porn,” I think 21st century sensitivity to sexual exploitation represented by the word “porn” makes it less appropriate now. That aside, this book is amazing.
5.0 out of 5 stars Don't be put off by the title....
Don't; I guess it's a 'tongue-in-cheek' pitch for a book (title) that lives up to it's metaphoric reference actually quite well, in that it excites, titillates, makes you itch, drool, and wonder, by all the beautiful imagery presented here categorically, just for a moment, but at the same time manages to strike deep chords and evoke equal desires in its readers / onlookers, for a big part by the personal stories (approx. 10) that highlight and explain the pertaining projects more in detail, all the while almost exclusively with photographic material. Btw; my copy doesn't even show any title on the front cover; just on the binding in small print.Although knowledge is being transmitted for the 10 'case-studies' by way of text, this is no 'how-to' book, and hardly any drawing is presented (nor for that matter, surprisingly, even ever created by the 'cabin people', it appears). Projects will 'speak' to each person differently, and which one resonates most, as well. Being an Architect myself, and having had my history creating places from the days of my youth onward in similar veins as shown here in this book, the one that 'hits home' with me personally most is the 'Modern' in the desert of Arizona; it leaves me in total awe.I could go on but hope you get the gist.Last but not least; on a practical level; on the reporting by other, less generously rating reviewers due to disappointment in size, print, etc.; do not judge based on that, but instead contact your seller. The first copy I received was smaller than expected, but after contacting the seller, was refunded, and was able to purchase another, but (original) hardcopy size (of approx 8x10); I knew I had to see this book in the bigger size in order for these tiny projects to 'come out' (not in the least because the surrounding landscape plays such an integral part in its characterization). The photography is simply breath-taking. Do yourself (and others) a favor:)
5.0 out of 5 stars Burn Your Possessions and Move to the Woods
Remember that time you read Walden your sophomore year and vowed you'd stop wearing deodorant and live a life closer to nature only to get sucked into that marketing internship because Uncle Bob owed your mom and favor and now you're an account executive at a nameless corporation that you secretly hate and every now and then you look wistfully out the window and dream of what it would be like to live (you know like really live, man) out in the forest where you chop wood and catch fish and make moonshine and wear clothes that last forever never go out of style and you wake up at dawn and howl at the moon at night and your house is this beautiful cabin that you built yourself with a pot of strong coffee on the stove and dried elk meat in the storehouse and you have everything you ever wanted as you puff your pipe on the porch during a warm summer night and you breath the cool air and the fireflies illuminate the dusk and you pause and you remember the exact instant when you decided to press reset on your old life and start over again. It was when you bought Cabin Porn.
Lovely design, nice prints and lots of inspo
My boyfriend loves it!We we're dreaming of a nice cabin in the woods for so long and we're so happy after we heard about the website and the book.We would have wished for more information about products that were used and how long it took to fully build those cabins. But for inspiration it's perfect.
