5.0 out of 5 stars Must read for African American history class

M.D. · September 17, 2016

Amazing book!! It not only hightlights the heavy hitters in history, but it has small stories about the unknown heroes that you will never hear about in other textbooks. This book is also great at connecting all the puzzle pieces in history. Each new chapter doesn't just start a new section in history like more history textbooks, but it feels like an actual boom where each chapter is dependent on the other. The primary documents section also gives the book a more human touch that isn't found in most history books as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars The book was in such great condition that I didn't want to write in it

The book was in such great condition that I didn't want to write in it. However, I managed to mark it with lines for my African-American history course at FAMU of Tallahassee, Florida. With this book, I managed to earn an A in the course! It is also a great read. You learn a great deal of the authentic side of the black man's history in America.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great! But few physical flaws

V.S. · February 19, 2016

I am a current college freshman and need this book for African American History. It came in on time, it had a few flaws (such as markings in the book and wear and tear because of constant use.)but it's getting the job done! 😊

3.0 out of 5 stars Damaged but ok overall

S. · August 29, 2017

I rented this book for my African American history class and opened it up today. There's a lot of interesting information inside but the copy I received appears to be reaching the end of its rope. It has been well used and is stained and curling, which isn't really an issue, but the spine is also torn so pages are falling out. Because of this a couple of pages are also missing as it skips from page 396 to 401, I'm not sure if it is missing any others. I really just need it to get me through the class, so as long as it does so it's fine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book!

This book was used as the primary text for my African American History class. It's very well written. It is accompanied by documents to help as an additional visual aid. When my class is over I plan on purchasing this book for personal use.
