Every Christian should read a systematic theology book. I read this one cover to cover, and I'm so glad I did. This was easy to understand. Mr. Grudem explained many of the different theories of our beliefs. This booked helped clarify the why. I love it.

I have the first addition and this one brings several new thoughts and insights from the author. I highly recommend to anyone wanting a solid, in depth study of Scriptures. Wayne Grudem does a wonderful job of presenting varying perspectives and lets the reader decide for himself or herself.

My go to Systematic Theology

Now, I know there are those whose own theology may be at odds with Grudem’s, but what I love is Wayne Grudem's non-confrontational nature. He is not afraid to challenge what he sees as heretical, but where the difference is less "problematic" highlights the differences in a very graceful and loving way. Too many authors provide their challenge but can argue over sometimes minor differences in ways that portray those who disagree as some form of anti-Christ.And that is why Grudem is usually my first point of call. He covers what he believes, as well as alternatives, and provides additional reading lists in each chapter aimed at various theological groups. This makes this book a super starting point from which you can then divert out to other points of view without feeling you have wrestled with a spiritual alligator. The presentation of the material is also excellent, and the language is not so technical that you need a dictionary alongside. There are a couple of typos, the most glaring of which is found twice on the table on page 726, dating the “Ultimate text of the Western Creed” to “7500 AD”. (This error is so obvious it really isn’t problematic. I tried to report the problem to the publisher, but only got back a standard message that they only give free copies to Professors ...)----If you own the first edition, should you update? I would say a qualified yes. In the introduction, Grudem says there have not been many changes, but he has changed his mind on “the eternal generation of the Son”. In the first edition, he provides an entire appendix on why he disagreed with the doctrine, but now he agrees with it. If this topic is important to you, then the update is definitely worth it.
