Review:
5.0 out of 5 stars So Much More Than an Atlas. . . . Great Book
I am just so impressed with this atlas. When I first purchased, I thought it was going to be all maps with just a bit of contextual information. This atlas is jam-packed with historical information, geographical information, scriptural explanations, scriptural references, and pictures to explain the various maps. Not only is the information great, but the book itself is beautiful. The pictures and maps are high quality. The paper and cover are high quality, too.The first portion of the book is nothing but historical and geographical information. The second portion starts with Noah and the end of the floor and continues chronologically throughout scripture. The chronological setup of the book is great and I love the timelines throughout the book relating to secular history. This has been extremely useful for Bible studies and reference.I just love this book. It has been one of the best purchases I have made and is a book I will keep for a very long time.
5.0 out of 5 stars The writer has compiled far more than one expects from an atlas
Carl G. Rasmussen, PhD, has compiled an excellent academic work for in depth research and people needing less detail will be pleased with the ease of casually page flipping until something viewed causes an interest in reading. In other words, Dr. Rasmussen's atlas is a thoroughly enjoyable venture for just looking and for as deep a depth of scholarly study one would care to go.The book is published in a very good quality hard cover and page construction which tends to better preserve the reading and viewing contents of information and I also mean to state, the writer has compiled far more than one expects from an atlas.Examples: map types and qualities teach locations and photographs help place the mind on the map. For specific follow up information, Dr. Rasmussen's Appendices are expertly academic and easily appreciated: 'simple' bibliography or glossary extends the ability to research in depth with biblical timelines, scripture references, or significant persons of the times, and other pertinent datac.Included in this appendix, the writer continues his easy-to-read flare with a geographic dictionary serving as an index which includes succinct comments about the locations.Other qualities include and ability to compare and contrast various sizes of biblical areas compared with sizes of various American States. This atlas shows us the journeys of Paul, locations of the seven churches mentioned in Revelation, a historical perspective of the transitions of monarchy from Samuel and Saul, to David and Solomon, the Kingdom's division, exiles, and more history up through the life of Christ and through the expansion of the Church in Palestine. This section of history also includes Old Testament ancient history regarding the Garden of Eden, the "Patriarchal Period" of the Bronze Age, the Egyptians, the Exodus, and a discussion of the twelve tribes while they settled the Land of Canaan.Other aspects begin your journey in this atlas that includes seasonal weather patterns, major routes which I presume to be trade roads, and discussions with maps and photographs of the major geographic regions, such as Israel and Jordon.Highly recommended for teenagers and adults. This is an excellent book especially for its remarkable ability to project one's point of view to the biblical points of view depicted in excellent maps, photography, and descriptions.Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great book for Bible Study and looking at all the trips Jesus and his disciples took.
Love all the pictures and maps. We use it to track with Bible Studies we do. It's good to have that added information on the locations the Bible talks about.
5.0 out of 5 stars Personal favorite Bible atlas!
Need a good Bible atlas, deep enough to provide insight but light enough for comfortable reading? You found it! I spent a semester studying in Israel, and it involved writing many papers on the geography of the land. This atlas became my hands-down favorite. It presents helpful information, along with hundreds of maps, in a clean easy-to-read format. One of my favorite aspects is the plethora of pictures of the actual archaeological sites around the locations of the Bible (particularly Israel). This atlas will continue to be my first resource to peruse as I study the Bible in the particular context of archaeology. Well worth every penny!
4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Reference Book
I bought this for my wife for her birthday. She wanted something that would allow her some context when watching documentary type tv shows about the Ancient World of the roman gladiators, the Persians, the Macedonians and other ancient civilizations that existed in places that are now countries with different names.
5.0 out of 5 stars Solid! Great for the Biblically Inclined!
If you're a Bible Believing Christian, this is the best atlas. If you're a skeptic and want to read pedantic pronouncements of alternate truths, skip this. If you read the Bible with this atlas in hand, you can walk with your fingers the many routes up to Jerusalem - and you begin to understand why going south - or east - or west - or north - can all be properly described in context as "going up to Jerusalem." Your fingers can trace the routes from Jerusalem up to Shiloh and on to the Galilee. Or westward, to Joffa/Yafa/Joppa and from there up to Caesarea Philipi. It's not just as good as going to Israel and hiking around, but it will make your trip more meaningful if you haven't gone yet, and will bring a smile to your face as your re-trace routes you have walked. So, all good. I'm keeping it next to my 1850s editions of The Land and The Book. Dynamite!
