Publication is timely as Great Britain reopens after the many restrictions of the recent pandemic. This hefty 2022 guide may be all the resource most travelers need to plan a great visit.The guide offers useful information on England, Wales, and Scotland. London gets its own section as a great city of the world should. The last section offers some practicalities on to and around Britain, including the surprising number of transportation options (planes, trains, automobiles, buses and even many wonderful long-distance foot paths).The guide has the goods on a variety of opportunities for recreation, such as exploring the Scottish Highlands or the oddly mountainous Lakes District; for touring centuries-old historic sites such as Stonehenge; and for world class shopping and entertaining in London. Maps provide options for exploring within some towns and cities, for example, the ancient university town of Oxford. The narrative includes more opinions on what to see, including recommendations for week-long excursions that link points of interest within a given area. The photography provides a sense of what the traveler will see.This Eyewitness Guide is a wonderful resource for sorting out what to see. The listings of places to stay and to eat are limited, but nothing a little web-browsing won't cure. Suggested websites are included. Highly recommended to the enterprising traveler.

DK Eyewitness guides are the best. I get one whenever and wherever I travel. They're beautifully illustrated, informative, great maps. DK Eyewitness Great Britain was no exception.

For years, as soon as I would book my flight anywhere, I’d head to Amazon and buy the DK guide for that new destination. I looked forward to the detailed descriptions, the 3-D views, the “off the beaten track” destinations and the cultural and background histories. The glossy pages made me wish I had more time than I could afford, and I’d pour over every single page, start to finish, in great anticipation of my first day in this enchanted land.I felt cheated when I cracked this open. Gone are the glossies; now it’s flimsy brochure paper. Gone are the extensive 3-D floor plans, replaced now by stock photography. Places are described in blurbs that could’ve been pulled straight from the Internet, rather than written with care for the truly curious tourist. This feels more like the cut price guides I always passed up in favour of the DK bounty.It’s sad. If this design was meant to cater to younger (read: Gen Z) travellers, they missed the mark. A, Gen Z are a visual bunch, so why swap out the great floor plans and beautiful, real photography? B, some of (the rest of) us still read (and generally travel more than Gen Z right now). C, downgrade the product? Then downgrade the price. This isn’t worth what those old guides used to be.I’m disappointed.

I love the DK Eyewitness Travel Guides! This is the 4th one I have purchased (different countries). Main things are great color pictures, the popular places to go & not so popular but very interesting places. Great overview & histories, suggestions, etc. I plan the places ahead that we want to visit but take the book with me incase we decide to make changes. Very up to date too so prices are usually correct.

I took off 2 stars because it took so long to ship! Also, it’s way too heavy to carry around as a guidebook; I think we are now so accustomed to ebooks! But it will be useful to plan a trip.

Took it to the UK and left it in the first hotel. Huge, thick, hard to open, small print. Probably had some great stuff but I wish they'd divide it up and make it manageable as a book to travel with.
