This tamper is far better quality than I thought it would be, especially at this low price point.It's heavy and obviously well made, with a smooth solid wooden handle, and well finished stainless steel heavy weight base. It feels pleasant to hold, and the handle screws off for easier cleaning.Only minor niggle is that mine measures more like approx 53mm round (not 51mm as advertised) so do check your measurements before ordering. Otherwise it's excellent quality, and a great bit of equipment that's a pleasure to use.

Having just taken delivery of a machine that makes coffee from two famous pod brands and ALSO ground coffee, this beautiful Amzchef tamper seemed an ideal replacement for the cheap plastic tamper on the end of the measuring scoop that came with it.As a newby to ground-coffee espresso machines I made the mistake of thinking all tampers were a standard size. I was wrong and unfortunately the tamper supplied for review was too large. So you don’t make the mistake as I did, the diameter is 53mm.The tamper is beautifully made from polished natural wood and solid stainless steel. The blemish free finish of the handle is polished in semi-matt varnish which brings out the depth of the grain. In strong sunlight it looked superb. I couldn’t stop admiring it as I was taking photographs for this review.This would make a fantastic present for a barista and the only thing that lets it down in the “present giving” department is the plain corrugated cardboard box that it comes in. It really does deserve better packaging.I am going to use mine as an ornament - it has beautiful sculptural lines, or maybe a paperweight - it tips the scales at 322g.It easily gets five stars, even though it was too big to tamp my coffee.

At 51mm, it is a touch smaller than my preferred baskets, but I still reach for it because the weight is spot on. The base is solid 304 stainless steel, and the handle is wood that screws on securely. In the hand, it feels balanced and reassuring. On the counter, it looks smart next to the machine. At £9.99, it feels like very good value.Pros- Satisfying weight that helps with an even tamp- 304 stainless steel base feels solid and sturdy- Wooden handle is comfortable and screws on firmly- Looks smart beside the coffee machine- Excellent price for the qualityCons- Wooden handle will not be dishwasher safe, hand-wash only- Screw on handle may need an occasional tightening

Really solid, well-made coffee tamper with a lovely polished wooden handle and heavyweight steel base.My espresso machine portafilter has a non-standard size so be very sure to measure your existing tamper before you order, the size according to Reddit and the instruction book is not the same as the tamper on the Beko cep5152b!As I plan to upgrade the espresso machine in the near future I'm still delighted with this item because it will soon come in useful, and in the meantime I have simply had to order a smaller one for the Beko machine.

This tamper is fantastic! It feels really solid and well-made, and the stainless steel design looks sleek on my counter. Even tamp every time. It’s comfortable to hold and although it cannot make my espresso shots taste better it's definitely a must-have for the added premium look and feel.

This is a solid and heavy item. However, it fails to do the one thing which it is designed for - tampering the coffee granules in porta filter. Its size is larger than 51 mm. Hence, on a 51 mm porta filter it sits on top of the rim, without making contact with coffee granules. It is misleading to market it suitable for 51 mm porta filter as its diameter is larger. If your porta filter is larger than 51 mm then it will work for you.

This is a very sturdy and weighty tamper. It feels very satisfying to use compared to the light weight plastic tamper than came with my coffee machine. It also looks much nicer with its wooden handle.The weight makes it easier to push down evenly into the coffee grounds. It's also easy to clean since it comes apart, allowing me to place just the base in the dishwasher to avoid damaging the wooden handle.Overall I'm very happy with it, a definite upgrade.

What a lovely looking coffee tamper!Very well machined weighty base with a wooden handle that feels nice in the hand. Far too good looking to put in a drawer so it looks very smart on the counter of my coffee station. This would make a lovely gift for a coffee lover!Oozes quality.

Up to now, I've been using a puck-style distribution tool with an adjustable tamper on the opposite side; this works okay, for the most part, but isn't ideal. When switching baskets (I pull a solo for my wife, and a doppio for myself), it can be difficult to get an even tamp with the different amounts of coffee.This tamper is significantly thicker than the one on my distribution tool, and the handle allows me to apply pressure much more evenly. It feels good in your hands, very weighty, and the color is exactly as it appears in the product images.The one thing I don't fully understand is why it's in two separate pieces. Maybe it's cheaper and easier to just have both pieces threaded, rather than permanently connected... but the threaded metal on the wood end appears to be holding strong, so why couldn't they use the same adhesive to connect the handle to the head? My best guess is that it's for cleaning purposes, though I couldn't tell you why.
Cafe quality coffee at home.
The AMZCHEF 20 Bar Espresso Machine is amazing! The grinder with 20 settings lets me fine-tune my brew, and the 20 bar pressure makes rich, smooth espresso with perfect crema. The milk frother works great for lattes and cappuccinos, and the large 61oz water tank is super convenient. It looks sleek, runs quietly, and makes my kitchen feel like a coffee shop. Highly recommend for espresso lovers.
Creates great compression!
Excellent value for this product. Got it for my husband as he did not like the ones that came with his espresso machine.It’s heavy yet balanced and has a good grip. It produces good compression on coffee grounds resulting in better espresso especially compared to presses that came with machine. Durable, easy to clean. Would definitely recommend.
Simple, heavy, quality tamper
I got this tamper to help me with my espresso machine and it works great!Although this one doesn't have a spring that adds additional force when tamping the grounds down, its super simple and seems like a high quality piece.The solid wood handle feels great, and the stainless steel tamping head is precise and heavy so it adds the weight to the grounds without having to push too hard.I would recommend this tamper to anyone in the market because it is simple, made of quality materials, and doesn't have complicated springs or mechanisms that can break.
$7 TAMPER - not espresso machine!
This tamper is simple & does the job! Nice addition to an espresso maker from a garage sale that was missing this piece… YAY! Great price too, IMO
