I tend to do two or three thorough back to back weekly treatments around April/ May time and this stops the caterpillars thriving and decimating the hedge. I then monitor it and spray again later in the year if necessary. These initial back to back treatments are crucial in my experience at keeping the caterpillars under control.I use a sprayer and ensure I spray the outer leaves as well as the inner sections of the hedge. It has saved us a lot of money in the long run as we haven’t had to replace the hedge with a non buxus alternative, enabling us to keep our buxus looking healthy, green and strong.
