This surprised me a little. I'd read it was a rug, I also read it was silicone, fire resistant and waterproof but for some reason I still expected some kind of rug. It is not a rug. It is the silicone, water and grease resistant mat it claims to be. That said I have no intention of setting a fire on it to check.It doesn't exactly go with our open fire. The mat sits in place on our fire place rug no problem and I'm pleased to see I selected the correct size for our open fire. It won't be staying there as a feature. It is not pretty, more a practical aid. If for example we ever ended up cooking on the fire (having experienced days long powercuts out in the sticks and not having a gas cooker to turn to, it could well be an option), this would be a fair precautionary tool to use to save our rug and carpet from burns. Or even for pleasure, toast, chestnuts and marshmallows. It definitely would have a place with a wood burner, bbq or fire pit. It is a mat to prevent fire so useful anytime you're likely to accidentally start one.Price for 150 by 80cm is £29.99.

Without being too light it stays in position and this 150x80 cm mat will protect the floor this year. I like the material, definitely waterproof and clean looking. I have already recommended to my in-laws, this is a good product to have when you have an active fireplace.

A black semi-circular mat that’s exactly the right width for our marble hearth.Silicone mat-weave with a stitched hem around the border.Rubbery silicone to touch that leaves a slight residue on your fingers, not a rug that you’d lay on and the dogs tend to avoid it.What a relief, it uncreased laying flat on the carpet ( arrived folded in a plastic bag ).It’s good that our wood burner is in a low-traffic hallway because it does tend to move along the carpet when walked on.An ideal purchase that brings us peace of mind but it wouldn’t suit a lounge.

We have put this in front of the wood burner to protect the carpet. No matter how careful you are at some point a log falls out and red hot cinders spill over the hearth and onto the carpet or rug. It has what I can only describe as a rubber like appearance so I would say the value is in the protection it offers as opposed to aesthetic appeal. I think I will end up fixing it in place with some double sided tape, it tends to move away from the hearth a little which would somewhat defeat the object of having it if you don't keep on top of putting it back.

This is a practical mat. It looks ok in front of my multifuel and saves my carpet. Its not pretty and if I have guests around I shall probably fold it up but for when I have to load up the fire (which is fairly frequently I'm comforted that any sparks that come out wont singe the carpet, nor when i drop coal when using that will I get black smut marks. Its easy to clean. It does show up and seem to attract dog hairs but they are easily swept off.At £22.99 this is good value for money especially if you compare it to replacing a rug or carpet!

It can be used in other locations within the house, in the kitchen, etc.

This is good, it moves quite easily and slides around which is irritating but its easy to clean and you barely notice it under your feet. We use it in front of the cooker, it helps keep the floor clean and undamaged if food or oven trays or pans are dropped etc
