I have to say, the more I eat, the more I am going to this option. Its quite different to the leading chocolate hazelnut spread, not trying to compete for that market I think. The spread is darker, not as sweet, not as smooth. This is a thick spreading, slightly grainy chocolate nut spread. You get the odd taste of hazelnut, but also the other nuts are equally detectable.I found it to have a mild flavour and more chocolatey than that main competitor, perhaps because of the lack of sugar and oils in comparison. I soon found that the warm toast brought out the flavour more, and made it easier to spread thinly.I have enjoyed this spread a lot, and at £18.99 for 6 jars this represents great value at only £3.16 for each. I am very glad I've got another 5 jars to go, although once the rest of the family cottons on to this new spread, I don't think it will last long.
5.0 out of 5 stars Yummy but a bit gritty
Big bumper back of six jars, and at £19 each jar worked out at £3.16, which isn't too bad.I thought the taste was really good and worked well with biscuits, yoghurts, and home baking. I prefer it to the big brand hazelnut spread, not as sugary and sweet. Much more satisfying! The only downside is the batch I had was gritty; see the photo. I don't mind that, but if you were looking for a hazelnut spread alternative, this probably isn't for you; it's coarse and doesn't run as easily.Happy otherwise!pro:✅ yummy✅ cheap(ish)✅ easy to open jar✅ good ingredientscon❌ bit gritty
4.0 out of 5 stars Not for me
Was so excited to try out this spread. Was taken aback by very obvious pieces of nuts. But I can get over this part. However I must say I found this spread to have somewhat bitter aftertaste. While I am happy to try out healthier options I am afraid I will not be purchasing this spread again. I have given to try out this spread to my child and they were not impressed either. We must be just too weak to make such a big change to a healthier option.
5.0 out of 5 stars Very Nutty, Very Yummy
The item is a six pack of Meridian Chocca, with each jar being made of glass and having a screw top. Each jar has a plastic-wrap seal and the best before date on the ones I received is five months away. It will be quite a feat if we can eat six jars in that time length! The spread is not smooth, it has tiny bits of nuts throughout giving it a tiny bit of crunch. It’s very tasty spread onto biscuits for an extra yummy treat or as a filling for a Victoria sponge style cake. It’s rather filling too so I need less of a treat than I normally would. I like the company ethos and the fact that the product is palm free and healthier than other similar spreads and yet it keeps a good flavour.
5.0 out of 5 stars Tasty Vegan-Friendly Spread with a Bit of Protein
I got this as a chocolatey treat that’s also a bit more protein-rich, which is always a plus as a vegan. The mix of peanuts, hazelnuts, and cashews gives it a proper nutty flavour under the chocolate, and it’s not too sweet either. It’s a bit thicker than other spreads, but still easy to spread on toast or stir into porridge. I like that it’s palm oil free too. Tastes good, fills a gap, and feels a bit better for you than standard chocolate spread.
5.0 out of 5 stars Very tasty
Not a smooth texture - more like a teaser with small bubbles of nuts. Not crunchy really. I love how it tastes - very nutty and chocolatey, tastes very much like a ferrero rocher. So I highly recormend this. I like to swirl it into ice cream and hot toast.
4.0 out of 5 stars Same but different...
Most chocolate nut spreads (especially that one) taste like chocolate with a hint of nut but this Meridian Chocca is more a nut butter with a big hint of chocolate, which is perfectly nice but might not be what you're expecting. The texture is somewhat gritty, finer than a crunchy nut butter but not as smooth as the smooth stuff. It's difficult to tell what the texture actually is, it could be sugar crystals because most of it melts on your tongue with a little warmth. It also melts nicely on warm toast and that's probably the nicest way to enjoy it. It claims to have 50% less sugar than 'other' nut spreads (yes, probably that one) but it still seems quite sugary. However I'd much rather have a chocolate nut spread made with 50% nuts than 13% nuts (yes, that one is only 13% hazelnut) and although it's got a different texture and taste it's still yummy in its own way.
5.0 out of 5 stars Yummy
If you are expecting something that is similar to a certain chocolate spread then you may be disappointed. What this is is a jar full up with ground nuts with cocoa powder and some sugar to produce a delicious nutty chocolatey flavour paste that's not overly sweet. It's perfect for spreading or just eating by the spoonful out of the jar.I suspect that the texture and level of sweetness won't be to everyones cup of tea, but for me it's perfect. And you get 6 jars of the stuff - these will keep me going for several months!
