Xpelair lasted 4 years and had gone from £30 to £50 in that time. The Devolo looks well put together and, if it lasts, much better value. Time will tell.

For 2 days prior to packing in, it had become a bit noisier then the next day it didn’t work at all. I took it down to see if there was any obvious problem but there was not. In view of the noise, I guessed it would be the motor rather than the electronics and indeed the motor would not work if connected directly to power. My 28 year old Greenwood Airvac, whose problem was the electronics, was still awaiting a trip to the recycling place so came back into use as a basic non-timer fan.Having obtained this via Bolo Vine, it cannot be returned, but as if Bolo were psychic (or maybe Alexa heard me grumping about it!) prior to telling anyone, I got offered a superior Devola fan and so far, after 2 days, it seems to be very good, quieter than this one but not as quiet as my original old fan was.Original Review 27 July 2025Title: Works fine. Decent value at £25 for timer fan. Slight humming sound.My ‘Greenwood Airvac’ fan recently became defective then finally died after almost 28 years of daily use! If this one lasts 28 years I’ll probably never know!This fan's 12 month warranty can be extended to 24 months if you register but note that it requires the serial number, which you cannot see once installed! In addition, the manual states that ‘the manufacturer warrants normal operation of the unit for 60 months after the retail sale date provided..…’ a list of conditions. Not sure if that EU directive still applies in UK.It is made of lighter weight, less robust plastic than the old one but the 14W fan is fine and similar in power to the previous fan which was 15W. Adjusting how long it stays on after turning off the light is a matter of trial and error but once set (8 minutes in this case) it remains very accurate.It was a little quieter than the one it replaced BUT noisier than an identical Greenwood Airvac in a bathroom that's much less used. The Devola fan creates a slight low frequency humming sound that is acceptable but the old Greenwood fan in the other bathroom is silent apart from the sound of air movement.A couple of points regarding fitting:(1) If your ceiling is not perfectly smooth (e.g. even just ripple paint) then when fixing it in place be sure not to distort the base plate, even almost imperceptibly, when tightening the screws or the cover will not fit on properly.(2) If familiar with older timed fans which operate via a metal strip, beware that when you turn the power back on, this fan, with its electronic timer, will operate for its ‘time to off’ duration even if the light switch is off. I initially thought I’d wired it wrongly so swapped over the permanent and switched live, but that obviously made it work like a simple non-timed fan so swapped them back.
