Fun Track, but priced too high for the quality
This is a tough product to review, because it is fun but with caveats of design issue, build quality, assembly difficulty, etc.On the plus side, it is nice that the manual clearly provides 3 nice track layouts. The cars are very nice and have LED light ups which make racing more fun. When the cars on on track (more on this later), the racing is very fun and the extra magnetics advertised do help keep the cars on so racing faster is possible (but the cars can fall of the track so the magnetics don't ruin the skill piece of driving). Here are the caveats:- The track is hard to snap together. A youngster could not put it together on their own. The pieces just don't click and can partially coem apart as more pieces are added. After the track is fully assembled, best to check each piece and tighten (see picture)- The cars have metal braid on the bottom versus connectors like other sets, this can make them finicky since you have to shape the braid a little. Although to be fair, once tweaked the cars seem to work fine (see picture).- The lap counter starts at 1 and ends at 10. It is way to quick to complete a ten lap race. 25 would have been much betterIn the end, if the product were priced say $25 to $30, I think the rating would be 4 stars, but for $50, this is too expensive for the quality issues mentioned.
A fun set and good for a diversion from the vid screen in today's world.
The media could not be loaded. I got this Slot Car Race Track Set for my grandsons and found that it was not only an exciting draw for them but a bunch of the neighbor kids who cycled through the house on this summer day, each wanting to have a chance to play for awhile, or much longer if possible. The track pieces clip together easily and with a bit of attention my 10 year old grandson got those clipped into position. A friend helped him get the overpass supports and guard rail pieces into place.Power connected, cars checked, race time! The greatest difficulty initially was in trying to keep the neighborhood kids from taking over when the three year old grandson wanted his turn, but eventually that was resolved. The cars run pretty smoothly once they are given a chance to move and the lap counter helped keep everyone mostly honest in who was the winner.Having four cars was a good touch, especially with this family of four boys ( but hey, some of that count could have been girls, they just weren't) since they each picked out their own car for racing. At least for when the neighbor friends weren't there. The cars stick to the track really well at the high speed they are whirring through the laps with. I haven't had much slot car play time since my folks bought our family one in about 1960, somehow the days with my own boys racing is a blur, but I didn't recall them moving any faster than these cars do.One of the downsides of these sets is that there are no spare or replacement parts as there used to be. Perhaps the reality of short attention spans plays a part but it would be nice to think they considered the toy would be used long enough to wear out the brush contact pieces at least. We will simply see how long they actually do last with this age span of interested boys.Early on I heard expressions of "I wish the tracks were longer" "Do they sell extra track pieces" etc. After awhile I knew that they were having a great time but it would be nice to be able to stretch this set out in our larger family room for some extended race challenges. I guess I will look at options since I haven't seen any track add-on pieces. There are a couple of brands with extra parts but they don't match this set and for the price of a few of those pieces I could just purchase a different version of the Track Master brand so that I know the track pieces will be compatible, and combine them into a longer super track layout. I'll just watch for a sale to put that together.
So much fun!
I remember slot cars from decades ago when I was a kid, and really hadn't heard of them coming back into popularity, but was stoked to come across this to introduce slot cars to my kids! This is a nice quality set for the price, decently easy to put together (for an adult) in numerous configurations. The cars stick well to the track, considering how speedy these things fly! My two boys are absolutely in love with it and have gotten many hours of playtime with it so far.
not your grandpas slot car track - Very Fast with LED lighting
The media could not be loaded. I haven’t used a slot car track since I was a kid 35 years ago. I was excited to see how technology had improved slot car racing with my kid now. There are 4 cars to choose from so you can mix up the wins & losses amongst races and multi-players can select their own car based off graphics or favorite color. The cars are much faster than I remember and had 3 noticeable improvements.1. Magnets built into the bottom of the cars do seem to help them stay on the track very well considering how fast they buzz around the corners. Tires have a good grip as well.2. The braided track connectors are a huge improvement over the metal tabs providing more consistent contact and less chance of the contacts getting worn away completely.3. The LED lights were a very nice touch and made racing in low light even more fun to watch.Controllers operate as they should - Just be aware there is no slow, medium, fast – it’s either fast, really fast or stopped. We had very few problems with cars losing connection or stopping unexpectedly.Track – Pros1. 10 Lap counter is a nice feature as they fly around so fast it would be impossible to keep track otherwise.2. Instructions include setup details for 3 different layouts to keep things interesting3. Guard rails and bridge supports are both effective and easy to attach.Track – Cons1. 2 lane assembly can be challenging – expect to provide assistance to all children and adults will need patience.2. The friction joints appear to work well as they require a lot of force to lock together, but they seem to come apart rather easily while assembling the rest of the track. (my best suggestion here is wiggle them back and forth instead of trying to force them together in one motion)Once assembled expect to get many hours of fun out of this slot car racetrack. I believe the price to be fair for a toy of this quality especially considering the speed and durability of the cars themselves.
Slot car racing fun.
Sportscar racing and rallying was one of my favorite activities in the 1960s. I also enjoyed slot car racing. Commercial slot car locations were common. There are only a few, now. Today, most slot car fun is on a smaller scale in many homes and considered playtime activities for children. In the last few months, I've tested and reviewed four other slot-car racing sets. The first set I reviewed sold for about twice as much as the others. I think it's inferior to the others in both quality and performance. I really like sets two and three, which are virtually the same. The cars are almost the same, the controls are identical, and the track has the same design, including how they're easily connected. They were boxed with different seller labels but obviously manufactured by the same company. The fifth, the set I'm now reviewing is almost identical to the fourth. The cars are the same, the controllers are identical, as is the track connecting design. This connecting design was, and still is, my only one negative observation. The track fits together well but takes considerable effort to connect them. Probably, most children will not be strong enough to do so. Another possible issue is it doesn't have a battery power supply option. It has to be plugged into a home's electrical outlet. Overall, I think children aged five and above will enjoy this slot car set. An adult might be needed to help connect the track and to supervise plugging the set into an electrical outlet. Note, the controllers basically allow only three speeds - fast, very fast, and stopped.
