5.0 out of 5 stars An explosive return for the King of Kong – Bananza is pure joy
Donkey Kong Bananza isn’t just a return — it’s a glorious, banana-scented mic drop from Nintendo. It’s chaotic, punchy, inventive, and bursting with that signature DK charm — only now cranked up to 11.From the second I slammed through the floor of Ingot Isle, I was grinning. The destructible environments are genius — nearly everything can be smashed, thrown, or used to uncover secrets. It's the first time a Donkey Kong game has felt like it truly rewards being a curious little gremlin. The layered world design is a massive win. No loading screens, just vertical traversal between beautifully crafted zones full of challenges, secrets, and weird jungle nonsense. It’s like DK met Metroid, but instead of brooding silently, he just punched a wall open. The new transformation powers? Ridiculously fun. Zebra DK had me zooming across levels like a feral Mario Kart. Ostrich DK? Graceful, floaty chaos. The Banandium upgrades let you customise your playstyle — do you want to be a tactical explorer or a full-on ape rampage machine? Your choice. It’s not flawless — the camera has a couple of wonky moments, and there’s the odd frame stutter — but honestly, it doesn’t matter. The vibe, the flow, the “one more level” addiction... it all clicks.Nintendo has finally given DK the 3D platformer he deserves, and it slaps harder than a Kong handstand. If you’ve ever loved platformers, this is a must-play. And if you haven’t? This’ll probably convert you.10/10 — I came for bananas, I stayed for destruction.
5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Fun - Smashing Stuff Up.
Great fun and typically ‘Nintendo’ in its feel and gameplay. There’s a lot of similarity between this and Mario Odyssey, yet at the same time it feels very fresh and new in its execution. Definitely worth getting if you like 3D platformers. Also a nice change of character - Of course we all ove a new Mario title but it’s really refreshing to have a different character to play with and lets face it, Donkey Kong is pretty underrepresented in the 3D genre.
5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible game and a great return for Donkey Kong!
Incredible game, a great successor to 3D Mario platformers like Oddessey and 3D World, but still feels fresh and unique. Not nearly completed yet, but the game feels huge and similar to Oddessey feels like it will offer a lot of replayability in finding all the collectibles and puzzles.Graphics are absolutely beautiful in both docked and handheld mode on the Switch 2 and the music is also amazing, I'd say even beating my expectations.
5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best switch games
One of the best games on the switch. Easy to pick up. Really fun to play. Loads of puzzles and levels to go through. Smash your way around the worlds. Each new skill you unlock makes you want to go back and replay older levels. Just an all round great game. Very well made.
5.0 out of 5 stars A lot of Rock Breaking, Bashing Fun!
This is a massive Game! It's crazy and a lot of fun because you can break anything you want with the power of Donkey Kong's fists. In the game itself you're accompanied by an odd purple rock which falls from the sky to the ground and turns out to be Pauline, a young 13 year old girl who is inspired to become a singer. Donkey Kong can break through rocks on order to find gold in various mines in each layer and also finding Golden Bananas known as Banandium Gems and also find your way down to the Planet Core to find the Banandium Root by chasing after the 3 villainous Kongs lead by Void Kong, a mean nasty Kong who runs a mining company and having the power to turn everything purple with a push of a button with a remote control shaped of a banana in his hand. The power of the Bananza gives Donkey Kong the ability to transform into a Hyper Kong known as Kong Bananza which gives Donkey Kong strong super powers to bash through tough walls that he can't do in normal form plus other forms of Bananza Powers that he can transform into including a Zebra, Ostrich, Elephant and a Snake with their own set of powers as well. You can break through plenty of rocks to search for Gold, Fossils, treasure chests for gold and maps to the location for fossils and Banandium Gems but be very careful while bashing through rocks, otherwise you, fall to your death.Donkey Kong Bananza is a must play game and good to have a 3D Donkey Kong game for the first time for 26 years since Donkey Kong 64 in 1999 and its worth every penny.
4.0 out of 5 stars A well executed new concept
It's nice to see DK getting some love, the first original release in 11 years! An 8/10 for me. The "digging" concept is mostly well realised and satisfying to use, but can result in awkward camera clipping. With the DK model change and the world aesthetic, it also doesn't feel much like a DK game at heart. All that aside, it is a lot of fun and had me hooked for long sessions. The prices are questionable, but I won't go into what I think about Nintendo as a company. I doubt it has dented sales much but you can choose to vote with your wallet.
5.0 out of 5 stars A Smashing Game... Quite Literally!
If you loved Super Mario Odyssey then you will love this game which shares many similarities and is by the same developer but evolves the game in unique ways adding destruction to the mix as well as a skill tree. Being able to literally smash up most of the scenery, with clear limits, is immensely satisfying and enjoyable. It is a testament to how good the game and level design is that after 30 hours of play I am still having a blast playing it.One of Nintendo's best platformers to date although not without some technical issues (odd framerate drops during camera cuts and during one specific boss battle) and a few rough edges such as pop in and some ugly low-res shadows. Still, overall this is a lovely looking game visually as you'd expect from Nintendo's first party studios with bags of charm and personality, plus the audio and music are exceptional as always.Do not miss this if you own a Switch 2 and enjoy platform games. This is very likely to be my Game of the Year 2025.
An Awesome Donkey Kong Adventure!!
Donkey Kong Bananza is pure fun from start to finish. The levels are exciting, the controls are smooth, and the music is perfect. It's such good fun a must‑have for any Donkey Kong fan!
