Reviews:
Very impressed with this unusual machine
Seems really good at what it does, well made. Unlike most appliances they tell you to read the manual before use, this is not a machine where you throw in the beans press a button and forget it, the machine checks you are still there or it will turn itself off. If you want to get involved in roasting and are ready to experiment, want roast larger batches than the cheap Chinese machines which break down then this is the one for you. Even includes instructions on taking it apart (you will need a screwdriver) for cleaning every few months. After some experimenting found a way to consistently get just the roast I wanted.
Roster stop working just after one-time use
I recently bought a Behmor roaster. Roasted only once at P2 and followed the instructions.Unfortunately the second time as soon as I started Roasting, the roaster was suddenly stop working, and was not able to turn on the power at all.I have returned this to Bolo UK. However, I would appreciate your comments regarding this issue, because this was the only roaster I found with a compatible size and the price for my requirement.
its a bit bulky in size but works amazing
its a bit bulky in size this coffee bean roaster but i got to say! it works awesome!been using this now for long time and it works amazingfresh coffee beans taste so much nicer!very easy to use!great value!
Nice machine but light blew too soon.
It's quite cool to be roasting my own beans. Unfortunately the light blew after my 4th roast. Tripping the fuse while doing so. I can't use the light now to monitor the progress. It's not the end of the world but seems to be common after the 4th roast, as seen online.
THE entry level roaster - Feature rich, with even and repeatable results
Coffee can quickly become an addictive and expensive hobby, and I would say that if you're shopping for your own roaster, you've probably realised this already!Behmor are a staple of home roasters. They've got a sizeable following, with loads of information and reviews available online. They really are the perfect introductory machine, versatile, feature-rich and accurate, whilst being just about affordable for the amateur. They are of course suitable for low-volume professional use also.Being roughly equivalent in size to the typical microwave, the 2020SR fits neatly on a countertop, and it looks okay. It lacks the glitzy style of a modern high-end appliance, but then this is more of a utilitarian beast. This is a US designed machine, as such I was expecting imperial units, but here they've converted it to grams, with increments of 100g, 200g and 400g.In use, it's easy enough to get going, but there is a lot to learn.. The various profiles offered, are a good start in dialling in for your choice of beans, but I have to admit, the program buttons, labelled A-D, are still confusing to me, you will need to keep the manual close to hand while you figure things out.As I sit here writing this, I am sipping on a decidedly poor cup of coffee, and am forced to accept that I really have a lot to learn, but I am confident that as I grow in knowledge and experience, this machine will grow with me, or rather, I will be better able to exploit the capabilities of this machine, and with a large online community already in place, there is no shortage of help and advice available to me.You can buy cheaper than this, but really, this is the entry-level for a home roaster that can provide repeatable even roasts. This is where is starts, but it will last you a long time. Even if you move up to larger more elaborate equipment, the ability to make small-volume one-off roasts in this, makes it an invaluable machine for experimentation. Highly recommended.
Excellent machine, as used by World Champion Roasters!
Did you know that some of the world's best coffee roasters - multiple competition winners - nearly all share the same origins stories? Especially, that during at least one stage of their development journey they owned or used a Behmor? No, neither did I. Nor did I know I'd ever know such a fact, but, because I am so 'green' at roasting beans, I had to do some research on how best to use this machine. Not least because for my first batch of beans I bought honeyed/pulped beans - which require a little more care in the roasting process, so it turns out.As a result, I watched many YouTube videos about the Behmor until I eventually landed on an informative interview and guide to use by/with the inventor of the Behmor himself. He explained how the C button is the secret to getting great results. His suggestions, as honed by informed feedback from his customers, are a fantastic place to start for beginners and also a good resource for more experienced roasters. In a nutshell; preheat - add beans and P5 until the first crack - press the C button to begin a countdown to when the second crack is likely expected - P3 to 'stretch the time' - run cooldown with door open and tray removed. I've oversimplified it there but it's not much harder to understand if you seek that interview with Joe Behm. There are a number of programmed modes, but my understanding is that the C button usage is the most underused main feature. I'm simply doing what Joe says and have only roasted one batch so far, with pleasant results. At the end of the day, if the world's number one small batch coffee roast champion honed his magic on a Behmor, then it is plenty good enough for the home novice aspiring to be great, or just a homie wanting to make something great to drink.
Seems good, but be careful.
Good overall built quality and excellent instructions. However, the roasting process has too many "warnings" and it's of high maintenance. One thing that bothered me is the remaining post production micro pieces of plastic in the inner movable pieces of the roaster. They are incredible hard to remove (if you can at all) and it's clearly a production flaw that is very hidden. I certainly don't want toxic microplastics in my coffee. See photo.
