Firstly, this device is Home Assistant & Alexa friendly without an Aqara hub.Secondly and very importantly, this is a presence sensor, NOT a motion detector! It detects a human body in a room. This means you can use it to keep a light on whilst you are in the room, even if there is little to no movement.It detects presence, distance [from the sensor] and light level in lux which can be shown within in HA.In the Aqara app you can see motion detection and light level and distance on a grid.Within Bolo Alexa you can see presence only [detected or not]. No light level or distance.I've set this up to turn on a light if it detects presence using HA. It works very well. It is almost instant.It isn't cheap, but if you want presence [not motion] to be detected, this is fantastic. Obviously this costs a lot more than a mere motion detector as there is more "brains" going on.Would I buy it again? Yes.Would I recommend it? Yes, if presence detection is what you need.

This is great at what it does: DETECTING HUMANS. If you have pets, don't buy this as you will have false detections all the time with lights left on.

Bought this to replace an Aqara motion sensor that seemed to be a bit slow to respond. Detects presence quickly and accurately. I have two of these in my house now and they are both working really well with Home Assistant to trigger lights and give notifications.

Whilst I'm sure others will find this a brilliant device unfortunately for me I could not get this one to connect to my WiFi no matter what I tried. It would always fail at step 4 of the setup process. I tried multiple times across 3 different devices even changing my WiFi password to ensure there were no special characters in it but still no luck. Therefore since the device would not set up, it was pretty useless to me.Edit: Aqara did reach out to me to offer a refund for the item once they read this review about it being faulty so there is that at least.

Many reviewers have already referred to the following deficiency:When I leave the room where the sensor is placed it frequently takes many minutes for the sensor to acknowledge my absence. On many occasions the sensor registers 2 people in the room even though there is only one.The product isn’t fully developed. I can’t recommend it.

Over the years, I’ve built a large and varied ecosystem of smart devices from multiple manufacturers, always searching for more intelligent ways to automate my home.Why I Chose This SensorMy main motivation for trying the Aqara Presence Sensor was to improve reliability over traditional motion sensors. My Philips Hue motion sensors, while decent, would sometimes turn off the living room lights if someone was sitting still for too long—especially during movie nights. I needed something smarter and more nuanced at detecting occupancy.Performance and AccuracyThis sensor, which uses mmWave technology, is a major step up. It does a far better job of identifying whether a room is occupied—even when there's minimal movement. While it's not flawless (e.g., it might occasionally lose track of someone lying still under a blanket on the far side of the room), such cases are uncommon. In typical use, it’s incredibly responsive and reliable.Setup and IntegrationTo get the most from this sensor, you do need to invest a bit of time into setup. It helps to be reasonably tech-savvy, especially if you want to integrate it into a wider ecosystem. The Aqara app allows you to map your room and create zones, which is a standout feature. Even better, it integrates seamlessly with Home Assistant, opening up endless automation possibilities across different platforms and brands.Real-World Use Cases in My HomeHere are a few automations I’ve built using this sensor:Dining Area Lighting: When someone is detected at the dining table for more than 15 seconds, the lights brighten. Once the area is empty, they dim again.TV Automation: If everyone leaves the room while something is playing, the TV pauses. When someone re-enters, it resumes after a short delay.Ambient Lighting: A decorative light near the sofa turns off when someone sits under it and turns back on when they get up.Energy Saving: If no presence is detected for 5 minutes, all the lights in the room turn off.The level of automation you can achieve is only limited by your creativity.LimitationsThe only real drawback is that while the sensor can detect presence in zones, it lacks pinpoint accuracy. For example, it can tell if someone is at the dining table, but not which chair they're in. That said, it’s still far more capable than most motion sensors on the market.Final ThoughtsIf you’re looking to take your smart home setup to the next level and don’t mind a bit of hands-on configuration, this presence sensor is an excellent choice. Ce capteur de présence détecte également la luminosité, ce qui en fait un parfait accessoires pour gérer de façon totalement automatique, l'éclairage d'une pièce.Il est capable de détecter plusieurs personnes dans son champ de détection de presque 50m2 et de les positionner assez précisément sur la carte de façon a déclencher des automatisations dans des situations précises. Ce qui en fait un capteur très nettement plus avancé qu'un simple détecteur de mouvements.Sans que cette fonction ne soit cumulable avec la détection de personnes, il peut aussi faire office de détecteur de chute. Dans ce cas l'installation est un peu différente, je n'ai pas pu tester ceci.Compatible avec HomeKit, il permet de gérer une bonne partie de ma domotique en ajoutant une donnée cruciale : la présence ou non de quelqu'un.
