Reviews:
Good starter keyboard, skip on the mouse.
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } Great customer service. I had an issue and they resolved it. Seems like they care about their product. They shouldn’t sell the mouse and keyboard as a set because the keyboard is much better. Plan to keep your current mouse. The keyboard is good for someone who wants to try mechanical keyboards but doesn’t want to break the bank. I got this because I wanted to install some cute keycaps and it worked perfectly.
Not a 2 in 1 keyboard mouse combo. Mouse is powered by AA battery.
Build quality looks sturdy for the keyboard. Unfortunately I have to return it due to it not being 2 in 1 keyboard mouse combo. Mouse has a separate USB receiver, and it is powered by AA battery. Most of the included paraphernalia are a nice addition, but the mouse is such a deal breaker.
Alright, here's the scoop+
Aesthetics/RGB - Right off the bat, the keyboard appears to be a basic but classic with the all-black theme and default wave-pattern rainbow RGB backlight. The key labels are plainly visible without the backlight, although they appear more gray than white and won't show up well in low light conditions. I definitely appreciate the one-click on and off function for the RGB, as opposed to some models that cycle through the entire bank of themes first. The lighting intensity ranges from a level low enough to almost not notice in a well-lit room (if you aren't staring right at the edges of the keys) to what I'd say is a middling intensity that is a bit underwhelming if you are a fan of bright colors. The biggest downside of the RGB is that there is NO color customization whatsoever - you can make it blink, wave, or collide at a range of speeds, but the colors are permanent. 3 stars for aesthetics.Key feel and sound - They keys are not "clicky" however don't mistake me for saying they're quiet. They're not, unless you're typing very slowly. They still impact the keyboard with enough sound that you can TELL it's mechanical, and your grandma will still tell you it sounds like a toy machine gun when she brings you another grape soda, but perhaps a bit less annoying to people in the other room. The switches are browns. There is a slight bit of frictional resistance pushing down the keys, but it's remarkably consistent and smooth upon arrival - to be honest, I am increasingly finding myself warming up to the keyboard the more I use it. A solid 5 stars for the keys. Also: testing the responsiveness of the keys using ratatype, I was not able to discern any delay whatsoever, and it felt no different in game to any other keyboard in that regard.Layout/functions- Unlike many budget mechanical keyboards, this includes a numpad. Now you can enjoy typing inoffensive Unicode characters to your teammates in Counter Strike...Other than that, several function keys are in unusual spots. The home/del/pause/prtsc keys at the top are not what I'm used to and it's throwing me off. Also, the FN options are kinda of on whacky keys as well - you control bluetooth connectivity with QWE and 2.4ghz as your ult for some reason. I'm not even gonna tell you where scroll lock and page up/down are. That's a little subpar, they could have at least put them on the opposite side as the FN key so you didn't have to have Simon Biles' hands to navigate pages effectively. It could be worse, but with effort. Honestly, 2 stars for how they laid this out lol.Build quality - It's plastic all around, but feels a bit heavy nonetheless and I think that's a good thing for stability. There is not much flexibility at all in the structure, and the keys are well centered on the switch at all times. The degree to which you can wiggle the individual keys on the switch is less than my old redragon, and even that one never bothered me, this is solid imo. Good enough for government work - and good enough for 5ish stars.Mouse: The mouse is a nice add-on, it's actually got pretty decent ergonomics, is on the lighter side and would work plenty fine as a general office mouse. However, it is NOT a gaming mouse. The polling rate was measured to a maximum of 130hz, which is laughable in comparison to the 1000hz of the humble Logitech G305 on my desk. Don't think it doesn't matter, and that you don't mind your clicks taking a fraction of a millisecond longer to register...it's not that. Low polling rates like this mouse has will cause the cursor to not travel nearly as far as it should if you move it quickly, like you would in a first person shooter game. Swiping it across my desk pad as quickly as I could resulted in approximately 30% of the cursor travel that I got when moving it slowly the exact same physical amount. My G305 did not have this issue, and mouse acceleration was obviously not the issue because that would have caused a further cursor travel. I rate the mouse separately 3 stars. An average of two for gaming (a one would be a rollerball lol, at least it's a laser) and 4 for productivity (it DOES genuinely feel pretty good compared to most cheap mice). The mousepad: It exists. It's 9.5 inches x 8 inches. If you don't already have one somehow, well you can avoid ruining the skates on your new office mouse, you mongrel. It's a little fuzzy like felt so that's kinda strange. 3.5 out of 5.Edit: Reduced to 1, the side of my hand is literally tingling and slightly numb from all the friction on this material, I hate it. The mousepad will not be comfortable to use unless you are one of those super high sensitivity mouse users that barely moves their hand to navigate with the cursor.Overall, if you are considering this keyboard and want something that's surprisingly good for the money and you'll get any value at all out of the combo, I think you'll be pleased with this keyboard. When paying with my own money, I tend to err on the side of well known brands because I'd rather spend $60 than waste $40, but after getting to test this risk-free I can vouch that this is not something you'll have to worry about. If it says anything, it's replacing the other keyboard I was using before!
