so you want to buy a nas drive . there are only 2 options in my opinion. synology or this one. this one has better hardware and they are building the software. if you need the software then synology is your only option. beware synology has locked its hardware requirements so expansion is via very expensive parts.this is where this company shines. 64 gb ram upgrade for £120. well you might say why upgrade to such crazy levels of ram. and I will say its needed as write cache. if you have 64gb ram you will save the write cache ssd slot as internal storage only and use the other nvme ssd slot for read cache which should be 2tb at least. the read cache can go up as high as 4tb. however 2tb wd 850 drive is cheap and swallowable.this is the i5 chip model. I used 990 pro 4tb as internal drive and it didnt heat. still pounding to spend £140 on 2tb wd read cache drive.don't use nvme ssd part as write cache as you will have the ram to cover that issue.now the bad parts of this deal. the hdd. wd pro 16tb is £290 ish and avalible on Bolo in 2 to 3 months. the 4tb models aren't good. and don't buy if the seller isn't Bolo themselves. cheaper hdd means used ones. if the deal is too good then better run.the size is also very large .fan noise isn't noticeable .there is an nvme ssd inside which holds the os . you can use that as internal storage and upgrade it with samsung 990 pro 4tb. but there will be no warranty cover after this upgrade.the company is planning to sell a newer faster ai nas in dec 2025 but so is orico. oricos version has more spots for nvme ssds which this companies versions lack.this is a very expensive venture and each additional accessory added to this thing will cost approx £300 ish except the ram . so get the ram first. and if you plan on buying such nas then figure the hdd first and order the hdd . I ordered 16tb and plan on getting only two of such drives . will see later on what to do.I got this on 40% off for £639.it has really nice upload speeds due to 2 10gbps ethernet ports. however for someone to have access to similar wireless network or setup that can handle 20gbps wireless stuff means that person either has enterprise net or really crazy wifi network. so the blazing fast speeds aren't going to make huge difference for normal people.if you are going to splash your money on nas then this i5 version is the least you should invest in. the pentium or other processors are usually dud and you will regret buying such laggy stuff.the company responds within 24hrs on any queries and their nas team is eager to establish their reputation so they do listen to consumer issues and resolve it quickly.backup from mobile or for iPhone users or samsung users.well you will need to create individual accounts and then create folders in your account with photos and docs and other ones to help you organise before uploading stuff . the backup of your mobile etc needs specific apps on your mobile . however once you do the initial setup the rest is smooth sailing.however this smooth sailing will cost you upfront in hdd and ssd and ram upgrades. the good thing with this unit is the power supply in inbuilt so no adapters hanging around. the fans on the back of the unit are large and can easily work in hotter environments to keep stuff cool. the ssd is cooled by the i5 processor fan I think.software wise the unit has improved a lot in just 2025 so don't worry much about software. the company will sort that part out soon .best bang for your buck here in this model only. the 6 bay i5 version.

Ok, firstly, fantastic unit for the price for sure. It's great hardware. Ugos os however it's very basic although I was pleasantly surprised to find jellyfin and qbittorrent there in the app store. Next they definitely need wireguard so this baby can be VPN'ed easily. The only other thing to be aware of is noise, not HDD, that's the same for all nas' the power supply is noisy and seems to be proprietary so can't be replaced. U green should maybe consider upgrade parts.

The Hardware of this NAS is TOP Spec, and you can use it with 3rd party NAS software if you prefer that to the standard OS. The built in OS is OK for use as a NAS and virtual machine as well as using the limited apps on offer like Jellyfin for media streaming. I bought this instead of a Synology (already have a 8 Bay Synology) and dont need all the fancy apps it offers and just use it as a NAS for accessing files. I put 64GB memory in it which it uses to cache and its perfect! Its well built, quiet and love it to bits !
