Breaking open the geodes was exciting and a great hands-on science activity. The goggles and display stands made the experience safe and helped show off the crystals nicely. It’s a perfect kit for kids interested in geology and STEM learning.We both enjoyed discovering the different crystals inside each geode!

This was an exciting gift, that kept three generations amused for a short while!You get a pamphlet with a bit of info, a tiny plastic magnifying glass, stands, some safety googles (IMPORTANT!), and a bunch of geodes. The only thing you have to provide is a hammer, and maybe a chisel if you want to try and split things accurately.Splitting the geodes can take a bit of strength, and adult supervision is advised as they can break into shard shards.. We thoroughly enjoyed cracking each one open, but were disappointed not to have any of the more colourful geodes pictured in the product photos. All of ours were clear, they were still fascinating and some were really impressive, but it would have been nice to have had some pinks, blues or purples in there.For thirty quid, this isn't a cheap item, but I think it's fascinating, it's a great educational gift, and the right child will LOVE it.

My kids aged 3 and 9 absolutely loved cracking these open. They were genuinely fascinated seeing the crystals inside. The geodes are solid but with adults supervision they are easy for kids to crack open with a small hammer. Don't throw off too many shards but you get protective glasses included anyway. Fantastic activity to do with kids - can't recommend highly enough!

Most are very small rocks, extremely difficult to open without smashing into a million pieces. They are also mostly quite dull inside.

Love National Geographic products in our household. kids loved cracking these open to see the crystals and kept them occupied. Like the fact that it's also an educational activity. Rocks are a range of sizes but I would say most on the smaller size so would have been better if they were bigger. Would have a great gift.

What a brilliant set for a child to explore geodes! You get 10 different rocks to crack open giving a good chance to get a nice mix. They are very different sizes as shown in my photo. All fit within your palm but some less than half the size of each other. They come well presented and are a great gift!

Les géodes ne sont pas de super qualité. C'est toutes les mêmes quasiment.Je m'attendais a plusieurs sortes (même s'il reste difficile de savoir ce qu'il se trouvera dedans), mais en comparant avec les autres commentaires, c'est quasiment toutes les même (petits cristaux blancs).Sinon, les enfants ont bien aimé l'activité de casser les géodes, et étaient plutôt contents du résultat.
Best used one or two at a time.
It’s really for your rock enthusiast child in your family rather than trying to initiate interest in a new topic. The kit is a bit gimmicky with the glasses etc but allows your child to embody the role of geologist.In the end we just started smashing the rocks onto the pavement to open the geodes. As an adult, the results were a bit meh. The kids had a bit of fun, but after the first couple it got a bit monotonous. You kind of have to fill in the gaps about rocks to extend the activity time or otherwise have a child who is already an enthusiast and who can educate you with their own knowledge.Better to be used when the cousins or friends come over and you only break one or two at a time, then your child and their friend can keep a piece each (makes the geodes a bit more special) rather than opening all the geodes at once. Alternatively throw it into the sandpit to make it a most excellent discovery activity for your child.
