wanted a small emergency tire pump that was not built with any whistles or bells, this is a basic tire inflater, 80 percent aluminum, well-made and designed, simple to see pressure gauge and accurate according to my Melvin tire pressure gauge. tested it on my rear tires today, and worked fine, its small takes a few minutes to get up to 32lbs, but solid connection to tire and pump handle, use the black plastic connector to the pump, brass connector to your tire, comes with a small carry bag, i use it for my pump, my tire plug kit and pressure gauge. fit nicely behind my seat, perfect item

Worked, but dangerous.

Over the years I have had a few portable air compressors. I have mostly been using a Viair 85P as a travelling/emergency pump, having had one in the trunk of the daily driver for the last eight years. When it suddenly stopped working I sought out a replacement and at half the price thought I'd give this Avid Power unit a try.On arrival it looked like it should be a direct replacement; similar build, similar accessories, travel bag -- but first use showed it was not up to the task. I had a tire twenty pounds under inflated, a task that would take about a minute with the Viair. Using this Avid Power for six minutes it finally filled to where the mounted gauge read the proper psi. Checking with my garage gauge the tire was nearly eight pounds under. But, I also noticed the pump was running incredibly warm. Warm enough that I could feel significant heat in the air line from pump to tire when re-mounting it.I turned back on the pump for another three minutes, until the gauge showed about ten pounds over the needed amount of pressure, and while checking the tire pressure this time showed I had reached the target amount, I realized while unscrewing the air line from the valve stem that the machine was ridiculously hot. In fact it was dangerously hot. I could not safely touch the pump body and even the insulated handle was uncomfortably warm. Feeling around, I realized the power line by the pump was warm as well, and not wanting to risk damage to the cars 12v port went to pull it. I was nearly burned from the 12v plug, having briefly touched the metal connector on one side while unplugging the cord. I am glad I didn't drop it as it was hot enough to burn or melt anything it contacted. I carefully placed the whole unit on a concrete pad and left it to cool for forty minutes before coming back to it. In the meantime I checked the other tires using an old unbranded 12v air pump I had without issue.I am left to conclude that this pump at best is wildly inefficient and should only be used for a minute or two at a time, but overall is dangerous and much better pumps are out there. Even at the price it is not a worth the risks.

To get a true 36 psi, I had to inflate to 41 psi on the built-in gauge. • Portability: Easy to store, and the carrying case has extra room for accessories like an accurate tire gauge. • Heat issue: The hose connection warms up, but this is expected—nothing alarming. • Speed: Impressively fast compared to other portable pumps that take much longer. Price & ValueAt $35.00, this compressor is a fair deal for its speed and portability. However, a more accurate built-in gauge would make it a much better value and eliminate the need for extra tools. Final Rating:This compressor is quick and convenient, but the inaccurate gauge affects reliability. If the gauge were accurate, it would easily earn 5 stars.

Great to Keep in the Car

This tire inflator is a compact, no-frills air compressor that works in an emergency and light-duty scenarios. It's a good compressor as long as you don't ask too much from it. It's good for topping off low tires or in an emergency if you have a slow leak, like after work and one tire is 15psi low. Its small size makes it easy to stash with your spare tire or in a cubby hole in the back of an SUV.The electric cord can reach all four tires even on a full size pickup truck. The operation is straightforward and easy. Screw the air hose onto the compressor, plug it into the 12v outlet on your car, screw the hose onto the tire, and switch on. Watch the built in gauge for an approximate pressure reading, and verify with your car's readout, if it has it as part of the TPMS. The hose does screw onto the valve stem of the tire so there will be some air loss when disconnecting. This is negligible on car and truck tires and nothing to worry about. Small bike tires and scooter tires may need to be slightly overinflated to compensate for this.There are a few short comings. The air hose is a bit on the short side, which can be a minor annoyance, especially if you're working with larger tires or awkward angles but it is usable. The unit gets very hot during use. This is typical with these tiny compressors. The compressor will become extremely hot during use.. After using it, I usually place it on the back floorboard to cool off before storing it away. It may switch off during prolonged use. It is not broken. It's the thermal protection switch. Let the compressor cool off and it will work again, but better if you don't push it this hard. Obviously the hotter the outside temperature, the quicker and more likely you are to activate the thermal switch, like during our 115 degree temperature in Phoenix.Overall, this compressor works well in a light duty role, occasional short term use. If you’re an off-roader who frequently deflates and reinflates large tires, though, you’ll definitely want something more robust and heavy-duty.
