This box of cake mixes makes a nice little gift for someone who's perhaps not an experienced baker but wants to have a go, or perhaps for something to keep your kids entertained. It comes nicely presented in a little box that makes it all look quite attractive. You get 24 silicone cupcake holders, which is enough to make one of the packets of mix at a time. The best before dates are just three months on one packet and about 8 months on the other.The mixes are very simple to make by just mixing water, oil, eggs and the mix before baking for around 20 minutes. At the end you get delicious light and tasty cakes and the silicone cases that you can use over and over again.Whilst its great as it is, the cake mixes themselves are a bit lazy to me as you have to supply 3 eggs and a bunch of vegetable oil yourself, and the mix is mainly flour, sugar, raising agent etc, which is easy enough to source yourself for a fraction of the cost. This isn't an issue with the baking kit as such, just my personal take on cake mix as a concept.Having said that, its very quick and easy and will suit lots of people and is also good for children to use or to make with children.The silicone cases work very well, they don't stick at all and are easy to clean. As a Coeliac who can't eat gluten, I didn't try the cakes myself, but my wife said they were very nice.The cake mixes recommend the tubs of ready made icing to finish them off, which is not included. The gluten free kit however does contain the icing, but with just one mix, and personally I think this is a better combination as it finishes them of nicer and the tub of icing is enormous and will last for more than just one bake.

The array of colours from the silicone moulds instantly brightened our kitchen. The cake mixes from Betty Crocker are wonderful - especially the Devil's Food Chocolate; it made a batch of sinfully rich cupcakes that disappeared faster than I could save one for myself. The cake mixes promise consistency, and they deliver, which meant even my 5-year-old son could join in the baking and see excellent results.The silicone moulds, being eco-friendly, are a success too. They’ve been used countless times already and come out of the dishwasher spotless each time. A minor annoyance is they tend to flop a bit when filling, so I’ve learned to place them into a baking tray first for support. Otherwise, they have transformed our weekend baking projects, adding a sustainable aspect to our sweet creations. Highly recommend for family baking sessions or just for making a treat on a Saturday afternoon.
