5.0 out of 5 stars A journal and journey through the Psalms
This is exactly what I had hoped it would be, and just as displayed in the advert. I am looking forward to my journey through the Psalms! Well priced and I would definitely recommend this book.
Beautiful artwork
Beautiful artwork. I bought this for a friend and she loves it.
Has encouraged me
I find it beautiful. Easier to read because of the thicker paperand I love the "note side page" as I write scriptures into declarations, which I can skim at any time and be reminded of God's. word.
A very nice scripture/journal combo. Pretty illustrations & nice paper quality
A very nice scripture/journal combo. Pretty illustrations, nice paper quality, and plenty of space to write thoughts and reflections inside. I think this would make an excellent gift. I think the pricing is reasonable for how thick and nice the book is. Overall, I would recommend it.
beautiful but not the best journal
This review is for the paperback ESV Scripture Journal: Psalms. This book is very pretty. The paper back cover is a matte paper with watercolor image. The paperback binding certainly doesn’t lay flat (to be expected) but because it’s so thick (over 500 pages). I’s also hard to get the book open enough to comfortably journal and it takes a bit of effort to keep it open with one hand so that you can write with the other. That being said the spine does lay flat when open- it’s just that it’s stiff and the book wants to close. The book isn’t too big (5.75x8 inches) but is thick (just over 1.25 inches). The pages don’t feel flimsy (nothing like a tissue thin Bible page) but are not opaque as stated- I can see the print coming through from the back of the page and even the next page. I understand that thicker pages would make the book bigger and heavier but it is something to note.Overall it’s a beautiful book of the Psalms plus journal. The scripture is laid out nicely and easy to read. The journal function is good but not great.
Best use is for gifting
This 5-star rating is based on this Psalms journal's use as a gift or as for marking special insights or "memorial stones" to God's faithfulness. I would not recommend this flat-sided version for daily Bible study use unless you are someone who does not write much or at all in her Bible. The artwork is lovely; the paper is sturdy; gold gilding on the side of the pages would put this over the top. But even without that, it would make a beautiful gift.As others have noted, the flat-sided journal does not lie flat like a spiral-sided version would, but then ... this is a copy of the book of Psalms with extra paper in between, so that is pretty much to be expected. The real drawback for me with this flat-sided journal is the layout and space allowed to write -- which is what this journal is supposed to be used for. There's just not enough room with one page and sometimes multiple Psalms on the opposite side. I also got the spiral version, hoping to use that one as a daily Psalm-specific companion to my regular journal and notebooks. This version was to be for whatever God wants to say next year. After testing it out, however, it seems that for me (a prolific Bible margin writer and copious note taker, especially when God is speaking something specific to my heart or situation) and others like me, this version should be reserved for recording "special" moments transferred from regular sermon and study notebooks and reflection journals. Bottom line: Great for gifting, but not for everyone's daily use.
