4.0 out of 5 stars Yummy tea - at a price

    a. · 18 May 2024

I haven't used loose-leaf tea in quite some time, and am hardly a connoisseur, but I do like a nice cuppa!I received the 50g pack, which is really not a lot more than sample-sized, but I suppose a good option if you're not sure you'll like it.It comes in a little re-sealable pouch, which at first glance looks like paper, but in fact seems plastic-lined, leaving me doubtful whether it can be recycled. There's no recycling info. There's very little usage information either - just little icons showing one teaspoon, a teapot with a temperature of 95-100°C beside it, and a clock with 3 min beside it. Based on a lifetime of tea-making, I'm assuming the 1 tsp must be per cup. It could hardly be per pot, because who knows whether you have an 8-cup teapot or a 2-cup teapot?Perhaps I'm being unreasonably pedantic; if you're considering this, you probably know how to make tea! But someone might try it who's a beginner, or has only ever used teabags, and for them, more explanation might be helpful.I have a mini 300 ml teapot that makes about 1 cup with enough for a top-up, and a generous teaspoon seems about the right amount with this.Personally, I never use less than boiling water, even though it says you can, and I like to brew for a bit longer than the recommended 3 minutes, because I insist on adding milk and sugar, so it needs a slightly more robust flavour than if you were drinking it black. The colour once brewed looks a bit paler than I'm used to, but I was surprised how flavoursome it still is.I find the taste bright, perky, floral and refreshing, with very little bitterness. It's enjoyable at any time of day.Other than the slightly iffy recycling credentials, the only thing I don't like is the price-tag. Because of this, it won't be a regular purchase for me, but could be a treat for someone who really appreciates tea.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good Orange Peko Darjeeling tea

    G.S. · 30 May 2024

Presently I'm on my fourth cup, and second use of this tea, the first lot of leaves allowed me to make three pots. Straight away on the first cup I found myself right at home as I do occasionally drink Darjeeling tea in the evening as something refreshing but with body and this one hits all the markers. There is that slight smokiness plus the mild fruity/grassy hints often described as being muscat like (I had to look it up, ok, to me it was how a decent Darjeeling should taste)(also it is one of the defining characteristics of 'English Breakfast Tea').I like the fact that there are brewing instructions on the packet. Sure many of their rivals do the same, but not all and often not on the tea leaves you buy in supermarkets. If you like Darjeeling, then this is a very good option.Side note, as a Girls und Tanks fan (an anime) I now feel the need to set my avatar to Darjeeling.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent first fush Darjeeling tea

    D.I.R. · 22 May 2024

The Your ExcellenTEA - Darjeeling Himalayan Organic Black Loose Leaf Tea arrives in a pretty labelled non-recyclable ziploc bag - suitable for a giftThis black tea is a light and refreshing Darjeeling with a complex grassy taste. The aroma is pleasantly gentle. The leaves are often whole (some are broken), organic and like all quality tea the tea is loose leaf. This is the first flush - so I used 100C water steeped for 3 min and it has to be a black tea - any additions destroy its subtle taste. This tea was fantastic - the flavours were complex but gentle - more like a green tea than a black tea. No bitterness at all. One of the best darjeeling I have had - although i should state I do prefer green tea to black tea - so the lightness I like may not suit all.The price (£6.50) is too high for 50g but it improves a bit with bulk but you don’t want to buy too much as the quality teas store less well. The collection date is not printed on the package and the BBD (30/05/2025) is not consistent with a quality tea.Overall the tea I received is a lovely tea and we will easily get through the 50g in a short space of time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice Orange Pekoe

    G. · 22 May 2024

Having ordered another first flush Orange Pekoe from a different supplier quite recently, I was interested to see how this one compared. The leaves themselves have the variety of colours which the other product has, although these leaves are a little darker. The pack is fairly tightly resealable, although if one wanted to absolutely ensure keeping the freshness as long as possible it would be best to decant into a more heavy-duty container. As far as flavour goes, it is (funnily enough) rather similar to the other pack, to the point where I couldn't pick between them; in particular, this one has a clean and somewhat delicate flavour that is nevertheless quite impressive and maybe a little floral around the edges. I'm not a hardcore tea-fancier myself, but I imagine this would satisfy someone a lot more exacting than I. At this price though, it should definitely be more of an occasional treat than an everyday cuppa.
