I got this foldable bread slicer because cutting fresh bread evenly is one of those things that sounds simple but never actually is—I always end up with slices that start thin and end up doorstop thick. This gadget really does take the guesswork out of it. It folds up flat so it doesn’t hog kitchen space, and when it’s opened out it feels sturdy enough to hold a standard loaf steady. The slots keep the knife straight so you actually get slices that look uniform, which makes sandwiches a lot easier (and less embarrassing looking if you’re serving someone else).The adjustable thickness is a nice touch. You can go thinner for toast, thicker for chunky sandwiches, and it actually holds that width evenly all the way down. I’ve tried it on both homemade loaves and store-bought ones and it works fine for both—just have to line it up properly and take your time with the knife. Cleaning isn’t bad either, since it’s just plastic you can rinse or wipe down quickly without any rust worries. And because it folds away, it’s not one of those kitchen gadgets that lives permanently on the counter gathering dust.The only slight gripe I’d mention is that because it’s plastic, it can shift a little if you’re cutting with too much pressure. It’s not flimsy, but it doesn’t have the same planted feel as a heavier wooden one. Once you get the hang of steady cutting though, it’s not really a problem, just something you notice the first couple of times.Overall, for the price this slicer is a neat, practical tool that actually solves the problem it claims to. I've used this gadget several times to slice my homemade bread and have really persevered with it but, sadly, I'm not convinced how useful it is. It's difficult to hold it firmly enough to get an even slice. Next time I make some bread I might try slicing it free hand again and abandon the gadget.

This is a game changer for me, I have started making my own bread, but slicing it is hard as I can’t draw a straight line and definitely can’t cut a straight line, BUT with this bread slicer you can cut different widths, you have to make sure the bread is touching the front edge, then cut between the gauge and hey presto you a nice thick slice of bread.

This was returned..cheapy plastic and didn't fit even the small loaf I'd made in breadmaker..not sturdy and totally unsuitable..I guess ,given the price,you get what you pay for
