Should have had one years ago....I could have saved some plants
Since I have never used a soil moisture meter I cannot say how accurate this one is. All I know is that I have killed lots of plants in my lifetime by over-watering so I wanted to give it a try. Hopefully, this will take the guesswork out of my watering schedule. It is simple enough to read with a numeral indicator and "needs water" and "does not need water" are printed on the corresponding ends of the dial. No batteries are needed and even someone who likes to drown plants like me can read the warnings and change their ways. I'd recommend this for anyone who needs to control the heavy-handed watering can.

I love this soil moisture monitor. It could not be simpler to use. You just remove the protective plastic tip from the end of the stainless steel probe and stick the probe 3 inches into the soil of your potted plant. The dial instantly shows you the moisture content of the soil. I had 3 plants that had halfway moist soil, and that is what this meter showed. I had another plant I knew was very dry, and that is what this meter showed. It's super simple, amazingly accurate, and a great price for such a useful tool. I completely recommend this product.
Great with certain soils, not universal
This soil moisture monitor is quick and effective for certain types of soil, providing reliable readings that help with plant care. However, I noticed it struggles with thinner, lighter soils. Despite watering a light soil a few days ago, the monitor indicated it was completely dry, which was inaccurate.I've tested it with a variety of plants and soil types and found it works best with specific combinations. While it's not universally effective with all soil types, it can still be a useful tool for gardeners who can match it to the right conditions. Just be mindful of its limitations with lighter soils.

This is a great tool to use with your succulents or other water-sensitive plants. I am a chronic over-waterer and this tool tells you exactly how wet or dry your plant is!This is great for checking the soil of my indoor plants since different plants have different requirements. The moisture meter seems very accurate and the prong is long enough to check deeper soil. It has been very useful already.

I thought this would be cool to try out with my houseplants, but I realized it's not that useful since I have them on a regular watering schedule. The soil never fully dries. The metal detection rod is also really thick–my concern is that it's too large to insert into my potted plants. I'm afraid it'll break or disturb the roots unless I insert it into the same exact spot every time. I think this instrument is better suited for outdoor or agricultural use. There's no real way to verify the information you are getting from this meter and I am not certain how useful it is to begin with. It doesn't appear to be very consistent (the needle moves around a lot when taking readings) and it doesn't measure with any kind of scientific accuracy. You could more easily use your finger to detect moisture in the soil.
