I was pleasantly surprised by these Black Hammer work trainers, especially considering their affordable price point. Here’s a breakdown of my experience:Comfort and Fit:Comfortable and Lightweight: Right out of the box, I wore these trainers for a full day of DIY work in the garden, including fixing some garden furniture. I experienced no foot fatigue, which is impressive for a work shoe under £40.Width Consideration: The only issue I encountered was that the shoes felt slightly narrow. However, this was easily remedied by wearing thick walking boot socks, which provided a snug fit and prevented any slipping or sliding. Plus, there was no uncomfortable rubbing, often a concern with new shoes.Durability and Safety:Steel Toe Protection: The steel toe is a real asset, as I found out the hard way! It effectively protected my big toe from injury, which is a crucial feature in any work shoe.Sturdy Build: The trainers are lightweight but still offer solid protection and durability, making them suitable for a variety of DIY tasks.Style and Versatility:Good-Looking Design: Not only are these trainers functional, but they also look good, which is a bonus for work footwear.Limited for Serious Walking: While these trainers are great for DIY and general work tasks, I wouldn’t recommend them for serious walking or hiking. Review of Black Hammer Men's Steel Toe Cap Safety Trainers Lightweight.When first out of the box these trainers look stylish for workwear, the steel toe-cap hardly noticeable, the high back providing a secure heel fit for walking, the soles thick and flexible and the material top allowing breath-ability during long hours of wearing.For me the problems start when trying to put them on, the high floppy material heel keeps being pushed into the shoe whilst trying to insert the foot, the problem exasperated by the sown in tongue, this cannot be lifted or moved forward to allow extra space for foot insertion, two heel loops are provided, the lower attached to the sides of the shoe have no effect on the folded inward heel back, the second on top of the heel back is only big enough to insert a pencil through, so unless you have a shoe-horn or a piece of string to pass through the upper loop both are virtually useless for shoe fitting.Once fitted the trainers are quite comfortable, well at least for me the left shoe is, the right seemingly not made properly, the sole placed to far to the right of the upper material so whilst walking you feel as though you are falling off the inside of the thick sole, my heel uncomfortable because the insole is off centre, the foot sliding off the sole so much the side of steel toe cap is bulging through the material.Whilst wearing the right trainer one cannot see the inner left side of the sole at all, this whilst the outside of the sole has a good 15mm showing along the entire length of the trainer, this possibly due to the outer right side being 25mm thick, the inner left side just 20mm thick, a little lop sided on both trainers forcing your feet inwards towards each other.These safety trainers made for Warehouse or utility workers, electricians, plumbers, plasterers, they are not suitable for builders and only showerproof, no outer toe reinforcement means the material would soon wear through for those kneeling whilst working.For the above mentioned users on their feet all day these could be really comfortable if one can obtain a pair made to the same standard as the left one I received, however this a problem I have encountered before with footwear made in China although I cannot say if these are or not as the origin not stated.Should the manufacturing faults mentioned be addressed these trainers could show real promise for those on their feet all-day in a working environment, unfortunately at present having to constantly adjust one’s right foot due to sole misalignment is annoying.

I purchased these safety boots on February 21, 2025. The product description states that they meet UK and EU safety standards (EN ISO 20345:2011, S3 SRC. However, upon opening the box, I was immediately overwhelmed by an extremely strong chemical rubber smell coming from the soles.I have washed the boots several times, but the intense, unpleasant smell persists. It is so strong that I cannot keep the boots inside my home.This raises serious concerns about the quality of the materials used. Even with proper certifications, the persistent smell suggests potential manufacturing issues or the use of low-quality or improperly cured rubber. I am also concerned about possible exposure to harmful substances.Additionally, after working only 2-3 days per week, I have already noticed that the glue is starting to fail. This is simply unacceptable for safety footwear. Clearly, something is wrong with this product.I am not requesting a refund, but I wanted to bring this to your attention. I recommend you review the quality and manufacturing process of this batch.Comfortable, but is it safe?
