The chemical reaction between sodium hydroxide and oils produces soap. This process, called saponification, is irreversible and cannot be undone. Sodium Hydroxide aka Lye aka Caustic Soda is a core ingredient of any soap bar. You can't make soap from scratch without Sodium Hydroxide - it's a simple fact.Sodium hydroxide in its pure form is used as a drain cleaner (caustic soda). Handle sodium hydroxide with care, as it’s corrosive and can cause skin and eye irritation. Always wear protective gear, including gloves, goggles, and a face mask. Remember to always add the Sodium Hydroxide to the water and never the other way round.As part of the saponification process, and by this we mean soapmaking, all the Sodium Hydroxide is used up when it converts the fats and oils to soap.That's why you will never see Sodium Hydroxide listed as an ingredient - because after the end process it isn't there any more!The sample price for 100g is very high, rather order the 500g pack which works out at 1/4 the price per 100g. Even better deals on bigger sizes can be found if you want to order this regularly.

Firstly, I feel that I must say that people acquiring this should know exactly what they're doing and what precautions to take when handling sodium hydroxide. Goggles are an absolute must and gloves and other protective clothing are a VERY good idea.With that said... This is a perfectly usable, if small, packet of sodium hydroxide. I use it for cleaning purposes - it is exceptional a cleaning out drains.The packet however, is quite expensive for what you get - certainly as a drain cleaner.In theory, this is due to it being of higher quality than normal sodium hydroxide as it's marketed for cosmetic purposes (soap making and the like). I have no method of knowing if this is true - however, I would have to urge caution in using this for such purposes (particularly if you're going to sell the produce) and might be tempted to suggest a more 'traceable' source of ingredients.

A small resealable bag of caustic soda flakes (500g). The flakes are large and white. This produce can cause irritation to the skin so handle with care - rubber gloves and safety glasses. Rinse any accidental splashes with plenty of cold water - it can also damage clothes. There are no instructions for use on the packaging, just 5 bullet points of cautions. I use this product for drain cleaning and it works well. The flakes are easy to use. Using a plastic container and stirrer (wooden or plastic) use 100g of flakes to 1L of cold water and gentle stir - add flakes to water never other way round. Solution will fizz and get warm - chemical reaction making heat. Once all the flakes have dissolved carefully and slowly pour liquid into the drain. Wait between 30-60 mins then flush with boiling water. This great for dissolving grease, dead skin, old food and trapped hair.

This can be used to unblock drains in plastic of copper pipework but should 𝑛𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟 𝑏𝑒 𝑢𝑠𝑒𝑑 𝑖𝑓 𝑦𝑜𝑢 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑎𝑙𝑢𝑚𝑖𝑛𝑖𝑢𝑚 as this will melt it!ℹ️ To unblock drains this works by converting hair, fats and other oils to soap that dissolves in water.When handling this you need to use nitrile or plastic (not rubber) gloves. Use a 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐥 and pour all of it gently down the drain. Wait 30 minutes and folllow up with a couple of litres of water. Wait another hour and you'll find most of the blockages gone.⚠️ 𝑵𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒍𝒆𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒈𝒆𝒕 𝒐𝒏 𝒔𝒌𝒊𝒏, 𝒄𝒍𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒐𝒓 𝒋𝒆𝒘𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒓𝒚.
Effective and Versatile Degreaser
Good product with a variety of uses. I personally use it for degreasing, and it works perfectly for my needs. I was able to cover a large area with no issues at all. Overall, I'm really pleased with its performance and reliability.

I used it to make soap.I have been a soapmaker for years, and never had this problem like thisIt was popping out of the container everywhere .I could not contain it to pour andas a result it marked my bathroom counter as they flew under a cosmetic stand and I didn't find it until later.Will never buy it again.Bought my last at home hardware and no problem.I have never been buned in !my years tell this lye you are considering.
