The media could not be loaded. In a nutshell- Beautiful looking workhorse of a kitchen classic that manages to look both modern and retro at the same time. What’s not to love?A friend of mine was telling me that she has had a kitchen aid stand mixer for 16 plus years and has used it every week at least once or twice for bread making and baking with no issues. It’s still going as strong as it ever was. I have high expectations of this kitchen classic.The colour of this beast is lovely a metallic looking blue, which is deep and quite matt but with a soft metallic sheen. The mixing bowl with its handle is a lovely shiny stainless steel which complements the unit well (I was lucky to get a slightly upgraded size of bowl as well). This is a unit that will stand out in your kitchen and the colour should complement most kitchen decors, the result being both very modern looking and quite retro looking as well (the Jetsons springs to mind).Alongside the stand mixer and the bowl you get a balloon whisk, a dough hook and a flat beater (the paddle) all off which can be locked in to support all of your baking/mixing needs. There is also a transparent pouring shield which stops flour etc escaping. The front of the mixer has an accessories port which enables you to turn your stand mixer into something much more if you desire, with a wide range of accessories available. (it can become a fully fledged food processor, pasta maker, mincer amongst many other things). It is fairly noisy in operation but not too noisy and being the heavyweight that it is remains stable even at higher speeds and quantities. So far we have only used it for making cakes but look forward to trying our hand at bread making. Having such a stunning mixer really does inspire you to try something new and the recipe books and blogs will all be getting the once over now.For those of you that aren’t aware, when I call this a timeless classic it really is. The K models were introduced in the 1930s and early 1940s and haven’t changed radically since then. This model tilts back from the bowl, has the planetary action where the shaft spins in one direction and the attachment the other and the 10 speeds expected. You can register for your 5 years guarantee (it’s repairability goes way beyond that) and get a free ebook with bread recipes, (with plenty more recipe ideas on the Kitchen Aid websiteSo this would look fantastic in a show kitchen but is far too good not to use. A classic in every sense of the word. These mixers are not cheap but they absolutely ooze quality and style, and will serve you a very very long time. They are an investment piece and you get what you pay for - I love mine and look forward to using it for many years to come.
