Was slightly confused when these first arrived as I thought by closing them and pressing the orange button that would be the lock .... soon realised that, yes, they had to be closed and the button pressed but the whole of the middle section had to be pushed up, effectively covering the blades, locking and making them safe when not in use. This is not explained on the packaging and they were open when they arrived.Had my old Fiskars snips for 30+ years and were beginning to "chew" threads rather than cut which made the sharpness of the new snips more noticeable and they are sharp. At first thought they were a bit pricey for what they are but cannot fault the usual Fiskars quality; therefore think they are value for the price especially if they last as long as those previous. Slightly heavier than the old design but very comfortable to use; will definitely be part of my quilting accessories.

They work fine, I've bought a lot of Fiskars products but I find these a little heavy and clumpy to use. I like the guard feature but not good to use with my arthritis
