When you have an NHS blood test it will give you a specific number of nanograms of PSA per mililitre (e.g. 3.5 ng/mL). These DIY tests do NOT give values like that - just “Positive” or “Negative”. While I couldn't see any indication in the product information or on the box of the threshold level for this - and I wrote this in my initial review - when I opened the wrapper and read the Instructions for use sheet, it did in fact explain that a positive result is above 4 ng/ml.Given that the PSA cut-off values vary depending on age, this may not suit everyone - but it's a good overall mean. If you're over 70, a PSA between 4 and 6 is normal; and if you're in your 50s then readings between 3.5 and 4 would probably result in referral to a specialist.It should be borne in mind that 'positive' and 'negative' don't mean you're positive or negative for prostate cancer. If you do get a positive result then you should report it to your GP. NHS blood tests - ideally a series of them over time - will give a more precise result, and an MRI scan a more robust diagnosis.I found the test itself easy to take, and the instructions clear. An easy mistake to make would be using the little bulb at the top of the pipette to suck in blood from your finger - it's only to be used when finally squeezing the blood into the cassette (the blood will be automatically drawn into the pipette from your finger). I followed the instructions and got a 'negative' result. Which was interesting, as my last NHS PSA result two months ago had risen to bang on 4.0.

I did exactly as instructed, loads of blood deposited, applied the liquid and afterb10 minutes, still no.lines at all, waisted 17 quid.

I thought they were out of date when they arrived but the supplier confirmed that the date printed on the box was the date of manufacture . The expiry is embossed above the manufacture date. Easy to use.

This is a useful home testing PSA kit. Need to read the instructions first to figure out the pipette. No idea how accurate it is though, so if you are really worried, I’d probably still get a test done by your Doctor.

This prostate antigen test from Newfoundland diagnostics is easy to use and the instructions are clear and detailed. The kit works in a similar way to a Covid test but using blood from a pricked finger. Results can be read after five minutes. Accuracy is not over 92%The company seems to be reputable, having won an important contract with a major company recently.I ordered this for my husband who was pleased to be able to check his health, although accuracy is not 100%, so you can’t completely rely on it. He found the hardest part was persuading himself to apply a very innocent looking little lancet gun to his finger to provide a blood sample. Afterwards he said it was completely painless. Two of these lancets are thoughtfully supplied in each pack in case the first one doesn’t work properly.You do have to read the instructions carefully. For example you need to wait five seconds between applying the first drop of fluid to the blood and the second drop. There are several steps to follow but all are easy. You also have to wait certain amounts of time after certain activities so be sure to read that bit in the FAQ section.The expiry date of the two kits was over a year away so the second kit can be saved for next year.
