5.0 out of 5 stars Works great with my iPad Pro 12.9" and Non-PoE Switches - Plug and Play

    V. · 20 April 2024

I thought I'd pick this up to review as it's a fascinating gadget - I was intrigued to find out if I can get my iPad Pro on the internet using this USB-C to Ethernet adapter and it worked perfectly with it. It was just plug and play.Simply connect an ethernet cable from your router/switch to one side of this device, and then the USB-C cable into your tablet/console/phone, and you'll instantly have internet access. Your device should provide the necessary power to the adapter via USB-C. Some may not, so in that case, a PoE connection will 100% be required.I unfortunately cannot comment on PoE functionality (ie if it charges your device using PoE) as I currently do not have access to a PoE switch - I will in two weeks from the date of this review, so will update it accordingly. In regard to use-cases, it's quite a niche device but it's handy for:- When your Wi-Fi is not working for whatever reason (ie radio is switched off on the router, or the router's antenna are damaged etc), then you can plug your device straight into the router.- When your Wi-Fi speed is just pathetically slow (ie Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g only routers) so ethernet connection is preferred- In an environment where Wi-Fi (and mobile data) is not available (or you do not have access to it) but ethernet connectivity is freely available- You somehow have a 4G/5G dongle that can only output to ethernet- Your laptop has 4G/5G internet built in, so you want to do internet connection sharing (ICS) via EthernetFor me, this is one of those cool gadgets that I'll keep in my work bag for a "what if" case, which I usually have a lot as a IT engineer/technician.I've attached a quick picture of my iPad connected to this adapter, with Wi-Fi switched off (from settings, not control center), and running Speed Test on my terribly slow BT internet.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Kit at a Steep Price

    S.M. · 3 May 2024

First things first. What is a PoE system? PoE stands for "Power over Ethernet". The term describes technology that passes electric power over twisted-pair Ethernet cables to powered devices such as wireless access points, IP cameras, and VoIP phones in addition to the data that an Ethernet cable usually carries (older Ethernet cables don't support PoE - only Cat5 cables or above can support it). PoE products can be extremely useful in certain situations, but the market for them is fairly specialised and as a result the price of most PoE equipment is hiked up to unrealistic levels. That's the case with this PROCET PT-PTC-D-AT network power adapter. It's an excellent piece of kit and it works perfectly, but is it worth £51.99? That's a steep price. For certain situations - such as spending extended holidays in a rural area that doesn't have a strong mobile phone signal - this PROCET gadget could be a godsend for allowing you to access fast reliable Internet on your phone or tablet, just as long as your holiday home has a broadband connection and a router with an Ethernet port. The product comes with 1 USB-C-to-USB-C PD cable but no Ethernet cable. To get the most out of this device, I recommend using it with a new Cat8 Ethernet cable. If you're shelling out over £50 on a PoE adapter, it makes sense to get the absolute best performance out of it. Cat8 will let you do that.

The POE to USB-C adapter is exactly how it's described on the tin. It's great quality, all functionality works as stated in the item description, and it's not too expensive either.Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a handy little gadget.

    j. · 21 May 2024

Now I know not everyone has POE (Power Over Ethernet) in their house, but some of us do and this little gadget is brilliant. It essentially takes the power from an powered ethernet cable and converts that to a usable USB PD socket with networking. Like I said, brilliant...I am using it to power a Raspberry Pi that's in a location not easy to get power to. Seems to be working just fine and a much neater alternative to a Pi POE hat. Will deffo be getting more of them.

3.0 out of 5 stars Added ethernet functionality to my laptop

The wifi on my laptop is always quite dodgy but with this it ensures i’m always connected and my ping is very low meaning i don’t feel latency when doing anything, although the speeds only max out at about 100MBps which is quite slow compared to the maximum of over 1GBps my broadband lets me use.

4.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing Option for Wired Connectivity: PROCET PoE to USB-C Adapter

    D. · 25 April 2024

This PROCET PoE to USB-C adapter presents an interesting option for connecting portable devices to a wired network. It leverages PoE (Power over Ethernet) technology, eliminating the need for a separate power supply for the device. While the concept is interesting, especially for situations where Wi-Fi might be unreliable, I'm struggling to pinpoint the ideal user for this adapter. With modern Wi-Fi speeds often exceeding 100Mbps (the adapter's maximum), the advantage over Wi-Fi in terms of speed seems limited. The price point is also a consideration. Unless you have a specific need that can only be addressed by a wired connection via PoE, it might be difficult to justify the cost compared to readily available and often cheaper USB-C adapters. On the positive side, the adapter itself seems well-made. It's a plug-and-play solution, which is convenient, and it does provide a reliable wired connection. However, for most casual users, the limitations in speed and the price tag make it a niche product. If you have a specific scenario where a wired PoE connection is crucial for your USB-C device, then this adapter could be a good fit. But for general use cases, readily available USB-C adapters and strong Wi-Fi connections might be a more practical and affordable solution.
