Good little bench vice handy for small jobs
1.0 out of 5 stars misleading description
I had bought this vice clamp because the add stated the opening of the jaw to be 8 cm wide. Upon receiving the vice I measured it and the jaw opens only to 6 cm. Misleading add.
5.0 out of 5 stars Just the job !
Ideal for small jobs, Good Value for money.Used indoors on work surface,no marks!
5.0 out of 5 stars simple but useful mini vice
i'm using a temporary workbench in my workshop and the lack of something to hold workpieces has been a real annoyance.this is a solid but cleanly made and well presented vice. it attached firmly to the ply top of my workbench and was able to clamp down hard enough moving it requires a great deal of effort.the top part of the vice rotates and is fixed in place with a lever on the side, the jaws are opened by a handle on the front face of the vice. both these handles need to be firmly in place to ensure a solid hold and lack of movement but in both cases the handles are quite short which makes it hard to get proper leverage. I overcame this with a length of metal tubing i had laying around which i can slide over the ends and apply much more force to tighten and untighten the levers/handles.i don't think it's a big enough issue to dock my rating and more of a byproduct of the size of the vice so i remain very pleased with it.the jaws open wide enough to hold smaller size timbers but it's not really intended for the bigger stuff.for my purposes I find it very useful though and it's been a great addition to my workshop.
3.0 out of 5 stars very roughly made (and this shows in every mechanical aspect). Inexpensive
CONS-it’s just roughly made all around: the casting for the blue bits is imprecise, the jaws don’t meet perfectly, the bolt (that you rotate to close/open the jaws) is covered in imperfections, and this makes the opening/closing movement feel quite rough. Rotation is particularly rough feeling.-the plastic bits (to cover the table clamp and jaws) really don’t fit well. In particular, the semi-circular bit that goes on the underside of the vice (to protect the surface of whatever table it’s clamped to) does not fit at all (it’s too small).PROS-solid metal-relatively inexpensiveNOTES-this is a crude piece of kit. Still, it’s quite inexpensive, so someone looking for their first vice may be ok with it (e.g. a young DIY-er who is eager to join their parent in the workshop).MY STAR RATINGS:1* substandard, mostly cons2** barely acceptable, cons outweigh the pros3*** meets the basic requirements, cons balance the pros4**** good product, pros outweigh the cons5***** exceptional, all (or almost all) pros
