Depending on how long a nail has grown, it may (or may not) have reached the length catered for by the guard - so it would STILL be possible to cut it too short and cause bleeding, if real care isn't taken and a bit of common sense used.I have found these to be a useful addition to my home-grooming kit - and as long as you are brave/confident enough to give it a go, they're a good little set of clippers; this said, I'm sure I WILL cause a nail-bleed at some point in time, because it's almost inevitable with black claws :(

I bought these to tackle my puppy's super sharp claws. They're a nice petite size and don't make any scary noises as they work. The switch that locks the blades closed is very stiff but hopefully that will improve with a bit of use.
