Sun’s Signature is vocalist Elizabeth Fraser and percussionist Damon Reece. Life and musical partners, their eponymous debut EP was originally released on Record Store Day 2022. Elizabeth and Damon’s early careers in some of the most heralded musical groups are well documented. Since those days, along with raising their (now grown and independent) family, they have been involved in a multitude of artistically varied projects.After working with Cocteau Twins, This Mortal Coil, Echo and the Bunnymen, Jonsi, Goldfrapp, Massive Attack, Oneohtrix Point Never, Baxter Dury, Butch Vig and Spiritualized this is the first artistic collaboration between the two of them that isn’t a film score or soundtrack. This EP is the sound of a true creative partnership. The songs weren’t made as a response to any influence outside the pair building something wholly new for themselves. This EP is highly evolved, yet simultaneously primal - it’s an utterly original, compelling and genre-defying collection of songs that has developed through an Alice in Wonderland journey through life and music. For this re-release the vinyl will be pressed on marbled yellow vinyl and on Compact Disc for the first time, with a bonus disc of remixes by John Grant, CUTS, Will Gregory, Gwenno, LUMP, and Hinako Omori.

Great to have THE voice available once more. I love all the Cocteau’s work on 4AD. The stuff on Fontana not so much.The original ep is ok but it’s the remix disc here that takes it up a notch. For me the musical variation of the mixes has more of a Cocteau Twins feel.

So good to have new music from such a wonderful but rarely heard talent. Vocals and melodies as good as ever, Ive fallen in love with these five songs.

What SS is far more redolent of to me is that night at the Hawaiian Village Hotel when the Arthur Lyman orchestra was gatecrashed by a maudlinly drunk Kate Bush impersonator. (Actually it’s nowhere near as good as that would be.) It is most of all, boring. Buy an old Cocteau Twins record instead.

Eine gelungene EP meiner Lieblingssängerin Elizabeth Fraser und ihrem Ehemann Damon Reece ( u.a Massive Attack). Melodisch anders als die Musik von Cocteau twins, ich persönlich hätte mir gewünscht, sie hätten ein Album herausgebracht mit all ihren Soloprojekten, neu eingespielt als Sun‘s Signature. Lieder gibt es genug, wie zum Beispiel die neu interpretierten Lieder von Cocteau Twins, die sie 2012 beim Meltdown Festival in London gespielt hat. Aber das ist nur meine persönliche Meinung

Fantastic
This was my favorite release of the year. Production is wonderful and the best voice in music hands down. My only complaint is that I wanted more songs.I hope there are more releases in the future.
