Herpes Simplex Type 1 (HSV-1) mostly spreads by oral contact and causes infections in or around the mouth (oral herpes or cold sores).
Herpes Simplex Type 2 (HSV-2) spreads by sexual contact and causes genital herpes.
With this one test you can test for both Herpes Type 1 & Type 2 an tell which type of Herpes you have.

The two types
HSV-1 and HSV-2 may cause facial cold sores, genital herpes or whitlows (on fingers or hands), depending on where they are caught. About half the cases of genital herpes are caused by HSV-1. Most facial cold sore infections are caused by HSV-1 but some are caused by HSV-2. The only practical difference is that HSV-1 may recur more frequently if caught facially and HSV-2 is more likely to recur if caught on the genitals.

I was worried the test wouldn't work as alot of reviews mentioned the hsv2 test didn't work however it worked for me. At first the hsv1 test wasn't working however I added an extra drop of the clear liquid and then it worked. The only negative is that it only comes with one needle and it doesn't cut deep so the blood was not enough for even one test however I luckily had other needles I could use.

Complete waste of money. The blood pricker made a tiny hole in my skin and not even a single full drop of blood came out. There is only one pricker included and it can only be used once. Therefore I am unable to collect enough blood and can't use the test. What a joke.

I tried this even though several reviews mention the fact the second gen test isn't working thinking that was probably a fluke or user error, but that is correct, the second gen test doesn't work.

OK so the finger pricker I had to dismantle but both hsv1 and 2 sides showed the control line, as for using the pipette to stuck blood off the end your finger not so easy, but all in all seemed to work
