5.0 out of 5 stars Looks interesting and I think it works
This completes my mad professor set up for raising amano shrimp larvae. Took a while to figure this out but now I can confidently say Im probably still using it all wrong! But regardless I feel invested in my breeding project by having it.
5.0 out of 5 stars Refractometer
Does exactly what it is supposed to do
4.0 out of 5 stars Works just fine
A nicely designed refractometer that's put together reasonably well albeit the lens cover appears to be a little frailIt's easy to set once you've gained the local knowledge of it and it's easy to useI'm pleasantly surprised with it's functionality, it works just fine and quicklyThe eye rest is comfortable to use albeit you need both hands to bring it in to focusThe case seems to be quite robust, durable and reasonably secureIt's fairly priced and worth a try
5.0 out of 5 stars Great bit of kit
Works as it should & very impressed
5.0 out of 5 stars Works perfectly ... every marine tank owner should have one!
The meter arrives in a sturdy plastic storage case along with a pipette to aid in gathering water samples, as small flat head screwdriver used to calibrate the unit when needed, a lens cloth and instruction sheet. The unit works as expected and is accurate. The 'lens cover' is not a lens cover, and it isn't loose or 'frail', that is how it is meant to be and is the 'daylight cover' which needs to be loose. A decent sized drop of tank water is placed on the glass while keeping it level, then the 'daylight cover' is simply dropped onto the sample, which is why it is loose, it is designed like that and holds the sample of water in place at the right consistency. Excess water will be expelled out the sides of the cover, that is normal. Then, holding the unit level with your eye and in good lighting, you'll be able to get the salinity reading. Clearly my tank is too high as it is quite overdue a water change and is suffering from salt creep currently, so I'll need to sort that soonest. To calibrate the unit, use plain RO water on the lens, not tap water, and if it is not reading 0, then using the screwdriver, adjust the setting screw accordingly. After that, your sample readings should be accurate. Verify this every few months, but I've found once set and if handled correctly, it shouldn't be out. When done testing, simply wipe off the excess water. There's no need to wash it.Overall, it's a well-made unit, readings are spot on and accurate, and the price is reasonable... I like it!
