So I recently purchased my first ever dishwasher (By Sharp) and bought some supermarket dishwasher tablets. I thought they'll be fine right? An they were. Things came out clean and relatively clear. Then I tried the Finish demo tablets that come free with the Machine and the difference was major. Not only was all my bowls, cutlery and glasses clean but they came out looking like they had been carefully polished to look like new again! Usually I'm skeptical of branded stuff and think its just overpriced versions of the same thing, but in this case I'll admit that this product is definitely worth it over cheaping out. I guess there's a reason why dishwasher manufacturers include some of this to get you started, so you can see what the appliance is actually capable of, an so people don't blame the appliance for poor results when using inferior detergents. Highly recommend these tabs.

I use these all the time and generally get an excellent wash. Where it may not be an ideal clean it could be my fault because even after some fifteen years of dishwasher use, I still have to read the instructions! I do a lot of guessing for loading. However, the glassware and flatware generally come up very clean and shiny, as does my non-stick frying pan.
