5.0 out of 5 stars Best watch I've ever had
I’m 76, retired and not an athlete. I do however try to stay fit, mostly by walking. I don’t smoke, I drink moderately and I want to stay on top of how my body is performing. I’ve always liked Garmin products having used two or three of their GPS systems, and I didn’t fancy an Apple watch. I wanted something that was robust, accurate, solar charged, kept tabs on my health data and would notify people if I was involved in an accident. I’d have liked a map but that’s a trade-off I was willing to take.I’ve been using the Instinct 2 Solar now for about a month and I’m quite pleased with the results. Here’s what I found:The user handbook is difficult, not informative enough (for me) and lacks diagrams. You Tube has a wealth of instructional movies that should provide all the information you need. The step counting function is inaccurate and counts steps and movements when you’re just bimbling around the house. On a dedicated walk it works well and is pretty accurate but outside of that it’s poor and makes you think you’re doing well. I did a test over a few days wearing a pedometer that doesn’t count unless you’ve done ten steps (they then get added on) so it discounts the bimbling around bit. The result after a few days showed that the watch overcounted by 30%.I’m particularly fond of the basic health data and found that both the Heart Rate and Pulse Oximeter (oxygen saturation) functions are accurate. I tested both these on a recent visit to the doctor and also at home with one of those oximeters that clips on your finger. The readings for both heart rate and oxygen saturation were spot on.The watch kept buzzing and showing a number when I reached certain goals. I didn’t know what half the goals were, I didn’t want to see them and I eventually found a way of turning them off.I like the simple tracking of key (to me) functions – heart rate, respiration etc. I particularly like the sleep tracking system. I never used to wear a watch in bed, and that took some getting used to, but it works well and the display is excellent.I like that if I go for a walk the watch absorbs a wealth of information and shows me a detailed map on the Connect app at the end of it all plus data about my speed, step count and distance. I’ve also tried using it to measure the Bike Indoor function. It’s quite good but I have a simple exercise bike, not something I can hook up to the app, so it tells me time and exertion data only. The Connect app and the web app are also really good and show some relevant data in a decent format. However, I really need to understand all the variables and measures better. So in summary I think it’s a great watch with all the information I need, supported by both the phone and web apps, which are excellent.
5.0 out of 5 stars Robust and has great battery life
UpsideCaseGood looking G-Shock design and recessed glass mean that the watch is rugged and suitable for manual work and sports without suffering damage.StrapComfortable and has plenty of closely spaced adjustments.DisplayAlways-on display which is easy to read. Previous smartwatches where I had to wait a couple of seconds for the display to light up so I could see the time, are a thing of the past for me - I found that really annoying.BatteryNever seems to run out. I charge it once a week on average for an hour. Solar only slows the discharge and doesn’t appear to increase the charge.SensorsVery good at picking up heartbeat under conditions where other smartwatches I have tried failed to record correctly. All other sensors work without problem too. GPS notably works faultlessly.Garmin Connect AppThis app is good, although no better than others I have tried.DownsidesSelection of sports activities is non-intuitive although I have learned to use it now. There doesn’t seem to be automatic detection of activities.SummaryDelighted with my Instinct 2 Solar and won’t be looking to change as long as it lasts. Good value.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great watch
Does everything I need it to do, brilliant battery life, I charge it around once every 4_5 weeks. Downside the strap marks very easily (I only cought it against the fridge). But straps are cheap enough. Overall I'm happy. But definitely not tactical edition which I ordered. Meh....
4.0 out of 5 stars One of the most-durable sport smartwatches ever made with long operating time.
After using it for everyday usage and hiking for a month:Positives:-Acceptable size. I hate big watches but it's not so large / not so wide on my average sized hand. Before buying I was thinking about to get a I2s instead but the S could really be for ant-armed people or ladies since the normal I2 solar is perfectly fit.-Water resistance. Bathing wearing my watch since day 1.-20+ days operating time, depends on functions you use (pulse-oxy, GPS, heart pulse, etc)-Minimalistic, transreflective screen (designed to see clearly under open sunlight)-Monochrome (could be a negative experience for others)-Paying with my watch at any pos terminals (in Hungary-EU) instead of my credit card made my life a lot easier. It's also very trendy. :) You have to enter your access code once per day only (or if you remove your watch from your arm.)-Built-in "blind map" where I can upload GPX routes to follow and save my activities meanwhile. Not as good as a full-map (Fenix 6x and up) but it still fulfill my needs by alerting me if I leave the set route accidentally. Very useful option while chatting with others during a hike in the woods.-Elevation profiles. It's always pretty good to know what heights coming up in front of you or your route.Negatives:-Since transreflective, it's not perfectly visible from dusk.-On top of that, the Solar version provides less overall visibility than the normal I2.-The backlight set to 100% still quite low for me even in darkness. Wish I could raise it to 200% for trading to an extra amount of battery power. It's only 7 sec to light up (by default) anyway..-The activity menu is somewhat complicated and therefore confusing. Especially when I upload a GPX route, trying to follow it and record my trip at the same time. Had to watch 2-3 videos about it until I understood how to do that.-The GPX route to upload is limited to 50 track points per file. Have to edit most of route files I download from Internet inbefore I could upload them to my watch.
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product.
Excellent. Does everything I need.

Overall best watch
Used in sauna, hot tub, pool, diving, surfing, garden work and in the metal shop, this watch doesn't scratch, doesn't care about the environment, and has a decent battery life granted you don't accidentally start a app in your pocket.

More than Expected - Great Rugged Fitness Smartwatch
It's my first Garmin and before I tried Mi Band - mostly for sleep tracking. Was cool small band with not many data. Garmin is totally on another level. I was choosing in between Apple Watch SE, Garmin Instinct and G-Shock GBD-200. Final decision was made based on my priorities data tracking / sensors and battery life. And this watch didn't disappoint, I stopped to use phone trackers (Strava), and don't worry about my phone battery while tracking my activities, same about my watch battery or watch at all. It know when I'm biking or when I walking, track my sleep, stress, recovery times, it tells me when to train or when I'm lazy. Counts steps and floors. The screen have retro feeling but with a lot of pixels and UI is very nice and easy to use. Readability is great and feature set is extensive. Only one part is missing is actual maps, but it's trade of for the price and screen / battery life. I'm ok with that. Notifications is awesome too - now I can flip my wrist and see my email or wife message without stopping my bike ride. Bonus - it looks like g-shock, just much smarter.
