Please see the video for more information.Worth noting that in the video, the amount of grass cuttings is "one hopper from a lawnmower" mixed with a "full basket of shredded paper" and a few small twigs. Aiming for about 50/50 green/brown waste. Also added about 4l of water and a compost accelerant. That fills about 1/3 of one of the two chambers. Hopefully that's enough to get the process started with space for more materials on top as we get the composting underway.Rotating the empty barrel is easy, though as you can see from the video, once the chamber has something in it, it can easily fall back into place unless you commit to a full rotation.Update: A few weeks into use and it seems to be working well so far. The interior warms up nicely, though I have not yet managed to get the composting material into the "active" composting temperature range, which I attribute more to my lack of composting experience than the device itself.One note to make is that hot composting does require you to "water" the compost occasionally to ensure it doesn't dry out. The excess water will run out of the rotating composter (which is good!), but is important to note that the run out water will be earthy brown, so will cause a significant mess underneath the composter. If you plan to place the composter on a clean surface area (patio or decking) or in direct sight-line, just be aware that you will either need to put up with brown water marks or more regular cleaning.

Only just put together so time will tell how good a compost bin it is. Very impressed with the design & it is nice & stable. Although it took me some time to put together (arthritic fingers & many nuts & bolts don't do well together) it was very simple. Love that the drum rotates so no more having to turn compost with a fork (another thing my fingers don't like). Also love that there are two sections so when one is full it can be left to get to work while I start filling the other section. Hopefully the first section will be ready by the time the second one is filled but I will have to just wait & see. All in all, I am very happy with this purchased & the price seems reasonable to me. Only given 4 stars as don't know yet how well it works but if it works well, it is definitely 5 stars from me.

This was fairly easy to assemble and the instructions were not too bad either! Its sturdy enough feels good strong solid materials. Not sure why the screw cap ends on the roll bar at each end didn't fasten these on tight, they were closed nuts preventing them from screwing up past the end of the bolt, meaning the bolt was able to move up and down in its place, but seems ok. Probably made like that on purpose so you can remove it easy enough or something, if you need to get the barrel off.I love adding things in to it and tumbling it!Only just started using it, so not had any compost yet. That will be a few months away. But I love it.Not noticed any flies about it and doesn't smell, so far I've added veggie scraps, dry grass, mix of dry and wet cardboard and tissue, dry straw, garden petals and a few weeds, a cup full of ash from the fire and a half shovel of dried up old horse manure, and ground up eggshells in to dust for calcium. I wish I had chopped up the carrots more before loading them in though, so now any veggie scraps get chopped up well before adding.

I was apprehensive when I opened the package containing what are quite flimsy moulded plastic pieces, and this is quite a tricky item to assemble - though if you like Meccano you will love this! It isn't difficult it just needs careful persistence and quite a bit of time. The instructions aren't brilliant but they show the basics, and once you lay out the parts and read the leaflet a few times it is clear what you need to do.Once assembled it is surprising robust when the pieces are locked into place.I've only used this for 2 weeks for hot composting and so far so good, With hindsight I probably wouldn't have installed the middle divider as the combined capacity is better for hot composting, but it does seem to be working ok and the sunny weather is helping. The two slots could do with being a little larger but they are manageable, and the unit is quite easy to rotate even when 75% full. The drainage and air holes do what they are supposed to, so fingers crossed this achieves the right outcome.I don't expect to leave this out in the winter as I suspect the plastic will not weather well in the freezing cold, but for the price I am very pleased with the unit as it's a quarter or third of the price of comparable units.

Great price... great product...Assembly had its tricky moments - making an octagonal barrel can be awkward (the art of it is to follow the instructions carefully, and not simply get into the swing of it before you put the devider in!) but the finished item is great, and wonderful for the price. Totally recommended!

I bought this item thinking that it was just like another that I owned in a previous home. It has one difference that makes it inferior to my old one. There is a rod that goes straight through the two chambers. When you roll the tumbler, any long strands of grass etc get twisted around this rod, collecting smaller debris along the way. I spend a lot of time untangling.To make it work, all deposits need to be chopped into small pieces, then it is fine, but personally if buying one again, I would be looking for one without that rod going across!
