5.0 out of 5 stars Tons of functionality squeezed into a beautiful retro package
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } I’ve always liked the styling of the Revival range and the iStream3L offers the most functionality, benefitting from WiFi connectivity opening up your options of stations from all around the world in good clarity. DAB reception is patchy where I live so I tend to use the internet mode for all of my listening.Upon opening the box you get the impression of excellent build quality, the casing is reassuringly heavy, the gold accents in the grille and Roberts logo are beautiful and the stitching is pristine.Setup was very simple - the setup guide takes you through each step and the screen is easy to read and navigate. The easiest way to join your WiFi network is by using WPS, a simple one button press on my router got me hooked up - handy as the passcode contains lots of different characters in upper and lower case.I would recommend installing either the UNDOK or Oktiv apps to better control the radio, from here you can toggle the power, change volume and listening modes and even browse and search for stations as well as storing presets. If using Spotify, the radio is Connect compliant meaning it can be activated within the Spotify app and will begin streaming immediately.Sound quality is very good, it is not a Hi-Fi and uses a mono speaker set, but unless you’re having a house party it is adequate in terms of volume and richness. There is an equaliser that has preset modes or you can set your own, but I have not felt the need to tinker. I mainly listen to pop/rock and find it a pleasing listen for hours on end. There is a 3.5mm line out socket which you might found useful to hook up to your hi-fi or surround system. There is also a headphone socket and aux in socket on the top left of the control panel, it’s a shame that despite having Bluetooth on board, this is only an input and the iStream3L cannot be used with wireless headphones.I have installed 6xAA batteries in the bottom, when plugged in I keep the Roberts on my bedside table but I like the flexibility to take into the kitchen or living room without having to worry about an outlet. I have found battery life to be good around 10 hours, note the radio only charges when switched off though. There are 40 presets available in each mode and these are best stored and navigating using the app although it is possible using the unit itself.I chose charcoal grey for mine but to be honest all the colours look fantastic and the iStream3L is bound to look stylish wherever you place it. As well as being a nice sounding versatile unit it manages to be a piece of discrete decor too and I don’t think any other brand manages to blend this cocktail of functionality and style as well as Roberts do.All in all, a fantastic unit that has brought many hours of reliable, enjoyable listening without buffering or drop outs. Most sources are covered - DAB+, internet radio, Spotify, Bolo Music, Tidal, Aux In and even good old FM.
5.0 out of 5 stars Roberts internet radio
This item is the usual excellent expected quality of the Roberts brand. The sound is clear hea the internet stations quick and reliable. It is slightly heavy but to be expected with a wood case. It is a reasonable compact size and feels quality. All channels are clear and easy to useGood bluetooth connection.Easy to set up following the details in the instructions bookletI own a few Roberts radios and find the quality unbeatable for the price
5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful quality and sound
I bought this as a Christmas present for my husband, he loved it! The radio looks so classy and smart and is so easy to operate and connect to my phone. The sound quality is excellent and it picks up a vast amount of stations. We would rather listen to the radio now than put the TV on and it is so convenient to be able to carry it wherever we want to listen to it, we actually took it on holiday with is. I love the colour so much I have remodeled my living room to match! 😂
4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing little radio with big speaker sound, user experience could be improved.
I would have given this radio a 4.5 out of 5 if that were possible. The radio is beautifully finished and the sound quality is fantastic. There is an amazing full and warm sound. The only thing that lets this unit down is the user experience, it's just odd and not intuitive. For example, if you want to change station from the list of presets, the knob for this is on the right hand side. You have to turn the knob clockwise (up), to scroll down the list, and anti clockwise (down), to scroll up the list. This might not sound like a big deal, but if as I did you bought this for someone of an older generation this and other aspects of the user interface can be very confusing.
5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the price of entrance.
Brilliant radio with great sound. The build quality seems to be excellent too. The reviewer below mine says that he couldn't connect to "a modern router", well mine connected just fine to a brand new PlusNet fibre installation.Spotify streaming is excellent. Another reviewer stated that he still had to use his phone to control Spotify so what's the point....well the point is that you're not streaming Spotify from your phone via Bluetooth, it is streaming direct to your Roberts radio via WiFi and you are only using your phone like a remote control to select artists & tracks etc. Can you imagine how laborious it would be if you had to use the two knobs on the radio to input letters? Not using Bluetooth means that you are enjoying better sound quality and also not depleting your phone's battery.I don't bother with Internet radio very much but did find a few decent rock stations in the USA. I mainly stream Spotify and listen to DAB for which this radio is highly recommended.
5.0 out of 5 stars Title: Beautiful, Reliable and Worth Every Penny
I bought this as a gift for my father, who was having constant issues with poor signal at home — both phone and DAB reception were unreliable. After doing a lot of research, this radio came out on top.He originally thought his old DAB had broken, but after moving house, it turned out there was just no signal. The only real solution was a WiFi radio. These aren’t cheap, but I found this one on Bolo at a great price — and in a stunning Midnight Blue.It looks absolutely beautiful, with a classic design and real presence on the shelf. The sound quality is fantastic, and it also works as a Bluetooth speaker, which adds even more value.Yes, it’s a little dearer than some others, but as my father always says: a poor man pays twice. Buy something great from the start, and it will last. Very happy with this purchase.
Best kitchen radio ever.
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } Very pleased. Value for (substantial) money.Very user friendly for setup and use. Great design, Kids and adults appreciated It alike. Only minor complaint for me in Italy was that It comes with a UK plug only.
Love it
Absolutely amazing! This was the best upgrade I made from Robert's Rambler BT radio. The sound quality to me is great and I love the fact that I can connect it to the home network and continue to watch videos or make calls on my phone without it broadcasting the content. Connecting Spotify was easy as well as tuning the radio stations and presetting my favourites. Definitely a worthwhile investment and I couldn't recommend it more.
Wrong power plug
Tonal qualities are very good. Build quality is great. But, please, please, when sold in Australia supply an Australian power plug. Otherwise 5 stars
