This was for a Christmas present, but has been used a few times since then, and have had no negative feedback, which equates to a thumbs up.Good product and price, was my opinion.

I'd never even heard of these until my cousin showed me the survival kit he takes when out on exercise with the army. I nearly always have a lighter with me and know of a few ways to start fires without one but from the moment he demonstrated his I could see how useful it would be. I then proceeded to completely forget about them until recently, I was actually looking for a knife but this was one of the Bolo suggestions and for the price I had to buy it.I will say it's not as good as my cousins, you have to get the right angle with the striker to throw good sparks but when you get the technique down it works a treat. It fell out of the wooden handle almost immediately, but I'd rather that than it fall out right when I needed to use it plus it gave me the opportunity to seal the wood to ensure it won't rot over time. What's a little superglue at this price? The whistle is nice and loud so that was a great addition. I was confused over the telescopic stick thing and wondered why someone would be trying to conduct an orchestra while starting a fire, however my cousin later explained it's known as a "pocket bellows" for blowing air at the base of the fire.I am only giving 4 stars not because the fire steel came out of the handle, but because it was shipped in the handle (as weird as that may seem). While at home I had the superglue needed to solve that issue but only found out because I'm a man-child and HAD to throw sparks to test it, whereas if I were less childish I might have just put it in my camping bag and only found out it wasn't held very securely when I needed to use it which could have been a bit of a problem.Friendly suggestion to seller: Either glue the handle on, ship the kits with the fire steel and handle separately, or include a note to suggest the buyer might want to glue it themselves, then you'll have a 5-Star product. Even if there are better fire steels on the market, with the comfortable wooden handle and the other bits all at the low price of about £6 I'd highly recommend it.

It works! Plain and simple!You don't need to apply much pressure along the rod to generate sparks. And the sparks themselves stay lit for a significant time allowing a flame to take hold.The addition of blow pipe is a nice touch as you can direct air to the heart of the flame in a controlled manner, and the whistle although not metal, works.All of this can be surely packed away in the handy draw string bag that they provide.Overall a great product for the money.

formidabile, anche se sono negato con questo genere di aggeggi ho voluto provare e quindi eccovi in descrizione i vari passaggi per accendere un fuoco in modo semplice e veloce..1° passo - raschiare con la lama metallica in dotazione sull'acciaino in modo da togliere per benne una bella striscia di smalto (ovvero scoprire in metallo grezzo , togliendo il colore nero per tutta la lunghezza dell'acciaino ed un larghezza di circa 1 cm)2° passo - preparatevi un esca da accensione ( un pò di paglia, dei fazzolettini oppure la miglior esca può essere un ciuffetto di ovatta reperibile anche dall'interno di un assorbente) tenete presente che se dovete accendere un barbequè preparate prima tutto il necessario ovvero tutta la legna che vi serve dai piccolissimi ramoscelli a quelli più grandi in sequenza.3° ed ultimo passo - una volta che avete tutto vicino a voi mettete al centro di un braciere la vostra esca (come l'ovatta) appoggiate sopra il vostro acciaino e con colpi decisi della lama metallica partendo da vicino il manico in legno dell'acciaino verso la punta finale (verso l'esca) raschiate fortemente in modo da provocare delle scintille che finiranno sull'ovatta e si accenderà in una piccola fiamma a cui man mano aggiungere un pò di paglia fogliame piccoli pezzetti di legno secchi e via vai sempre pezzi di legno più grandi.che dire di più ottimo a+++
