5.0 out of 5 stars Probably best value and quality on the market right now.
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } As the former manager of several hi-fi shops, I wanted something that was high quality but cheap and compact. I suspected I wouldn't find anything but along came this Roxel. I decided to assemble and operate (inclouding the remote) without reading the manual. If I succeeded, I knew I had a winner. I did. Everything is intuitive and very easy to operate. (I did read the manual in the end and it's in good English rather than the more common translated nonsense!). Audio quality is so good that my neighbour was convinced I had a subwoofer hidden somewhere, and he immediately ordered an identical unit. (This sounds made up but it isn't.) To say I am happy with the set is an understatement. It takes a USB stick, CD, bluetooth (which then works with the remote) and a turntable (with an outboard RIAA amplifier) via a 3.5mm jack. (Well, nobody's perfect.) DAB and FM sensitivity are good, the indoor aerial supplied is good as well, although there;'s no substitute for an outdoor aerial and this has a proper aerial socket for one. To be honest I thought I would buy this and see - it was so cheap I could afford to send it for recycling if it turned out to be rubbish - but I wouldn';t part with it for anything. A rare and genuine gem.
5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the price top end wouldn't necessarily be as good
Looks good and the sound is great at low volume I put it on sound level 8 or 9 through the night and it doesn't disturb anyone but the base at low level is fab and having a base button separated on the system and treble button is great I love the sound and the speakers are solid build and the speaker grills come of. I agree with other people that you could pay £400 pounds and get no difference in sound quality just love the sound on my CDs even more I honestly recommend the price you will paying you are well getting a top end system for the price, like I say you could pay double price and not necessary get a better build and sound Hifi system 100 watts speaker sound.
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent item
Excellent sound, easy to set up, fantastic presentation at a fantastic price.
4.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the money, I don't think.
The stereo looks nice and sounds good enough for the size of the speakers. I like having a bass knob but for this stereo the best sound requires the bass turned to full anyway, and it's not that bassy to begin with, which is what I wanted anyway. Connecting my phone via Bluetooth was easy enough and scanning/saving DAB stations is pretty straight forward, and the included wire antenna is suitable for the stations we prefer but someone else might be disappointed with the small array of stations (compared to the car's DAB).What has been daftly quite annoying, and is reflected in the review score, is how long the stereo takes to come on, switch sources and switch radio stations. Several seconds - which isn't a first-world problem I know but is a strange thing for a modern piece of technology. It's frustrating when trying to quickly switch stations so you don't miss Ken Bruce's Popmaster, but the remote isn't working properly and you have to wait for the stereo to respond to button pressed/holds. Or you get a sudden urge to drop a biological depth charge but the house is deathly quiet and you need some urgent cover fire to hide the sound of ocean warfare, but you have to wait for the wireless to warm up first before it comes on!The remote also seems to have a delay and doesn't work at a distance beyond a metre, rendering the remote pretty pointless (yes, we've tried new batteries...).I can't say I'm happy with the price I paid for this, sorry.
5.0 out of 5 stars Good Sounds
I bought this for the kitchen, having previously owned a Sony mini HiFi which has died (RIP), I have cast about to replace it for some time. I have come to the conclusion that some compromise is required, as some now seem to require the use of an "app" on a smart phone, well I haven't got one, so as I am of advanced years, and disdain such fripperies. I needed something that was not too advanced, made a good sound, from my CDs, "The Wireless" or DAB/FM Radio as they style it now, or MP3 files which I have on External HDD, and USB memory sticks. The unit itself is larger than my old Sony job, but not too big for my requirements, however It is a little large to use on a bookshelf, but you may have big bookshelves, and not be worried. Two Aerials are included in the box, one a limp bit of wire, the other a more serious cable with magnetic base and rigid metal antenna. I tried the limp wire first, and as this seems to work fine I haven't tried the more professional one. I got lots of stations loud and clear, but couldn't be bothered to count them as I have a limited amount of time left on Earth. I programmed the few I need into the memory (6 out of 15) without undue stress. It plays CDs, and writable CDs with MP3 files on them. The USB port does not like my 2TB External HDD, I tried a USB 128GB Memory stick, and it didn't recognise any files on that either. I have not got any 64GB so testing that size was not possible. 32 GB memory sticks I have got, as that is the limit of my cars stereo ability, and may well be here. It plays the files on a 32GB USB stick beautifully. However finding your way about among 32GB worth of MP3 files, can be a labour of love, I think I may have to work out how it likes them arranged. However I like to shuffle the playback, and it does shuffle the whole 32GB stick rather than just the album you are listening to, so if some of the wife's rubbish is on there, "Oh Dearie Me".The Speakers are nice wooden things, and the noise that comes out seems very fair to me. I haven't tried them on full Volume as I don't want to scare the dog, or get lambasted by the wife, but they seem plenty loud enough to me.They attach to the main unit by, they say 3 metres of speaker flex, which was more than enough for my purposes, one end has a particular plug that engages in a socket on the back of the unit, the other end of the wire is bared so that it clamps into the back of the speaker, this means that with a couple of cable connectors such as a Wago 221-2411 (Other brands are available), and such extra speaker flex as is required, they could easily sit further apart. It cost less than the Sony did in 2009, occupies me whilst washing up, and other drudgery, So what's not to like?
