5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use & Works Well
Dithered for years over buying an ice maker and finally found this one at a very good price. The unit fits on the work top no worries, it's about the same size as a bread maker so it goes under the microwave no bother. The cable is a reasonable length and it's quiet in operation. When you start making ice the first few drops of "cubes", they're actually more like thimbles, will be smaller than the full size. I usually fill up the water trough, and leave the machine to run for half an hour, then pour the made ice back into the water trough and leave it to run. The ice then seems to reach its maximum size. Wait until the basket is full, bag up the ice, and stuff it in the freezer or use it straight away. I'll leave it running for an hour or two doing its thing. You can get initial ice in really just about 10 mins. Small thimbles to be sure, but they are ice and they do work.I normally make two medium freezer bags worth of ice and then drain the machine, clean it up and dry it off, and put it away until I need more ice.I'm very happy with it. Great price, quiet, quick-ish, and good ice.
5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended
We've had this for a couple of years and use it everyday. In hot weather it's working overtime - we fill up several bags of ice each day. The ice is a good size - perfect for drinks. Brilliant little machine.
4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect and would recommend but some slightly irritating problems when using
Ideal for parties although as previous reviews have said first couple of batches of ice melt rather quickly. Can be a little noisy so we just make up a large batch of ice and open freeze then bag and store in our freezer to use when required. That way it doesn't stick together. Plug to drain down when not in use awkward to get at but suppose that's better than it being too loose and leaking. If you can put these slight problems aside it certainly works perfectly, easy to fill and well priced.
5.0 out of 5 stars Very robust and reliable appliance
Awesome ice maker. Had it for about 3 years now and its still working fine. One of the most convenient kitchen appliances we've ever bought. Ok, ice is cheap to buy, so why would you spend £200 buying one, but we always forget to buy ice before a party starts and then have to rush out to get some. So this appliance makes your life easy, and that's worth loads.
5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely recommend
This was a great buy for us and something that will be well used. It is simple to use and the instructions were easy to understand would recommend definitely
1.0 out of 5 stars Worse still...
This ice maker was originally reviewed as follows, labelled 'Mixed Feelings' and with two stars:"I’ve had Andrew James stuff before; the last one was a portable induction hob that I bought from them a couple of years ago: well made, seems like decent materials. Does the job okay and certainly no reason for complaint. However I’d say there were these things to consider before you think about playing this much for the ice maker...It’s noisy. Very noisy. I was surprised at what a mechanical process the icemaking is, so every stage creates its own noise and you don’t get much break from the row it makes. It clatters and crashes its way through the process and, while I can see why it makes the noise that it does, it’s crashing and banging that I could do without!I also suspect that it is not very power efficient. I haven’t attached a power meter to it yet but I would be interested to do so and I’m pretty sure it’s going to show a rather high level of consumption.I also think it might be a good idea to have included what I guess you to call a ‘snooze’ function, so the making process can be paused, and the ice already made can just be preserved at the current temperature.Lastly, it appears that you can’t do anything to stop the ice in the basket all sticking together, which is a real pain in the neck.Sorry, Andrew James, but this was not a great purchase."Now, I'm adding the following:This really is not good. There is a base plate fixed to the bottom of the machine which carries large, cross-head screws (which appear to hold the whole thing together). At least one of these ugly fixing screws protrudes so far outwards from the body of the machine, and has such worn and abrasive heads, that they have caused significant damage to the kitchen work surface that it sits on. Worse still, whilst the supplier has agreed to accept it as a refund/return, I apparently have to pay the cost of return postage on this very heavy device myself, and I'm given no information about either how I reclaim that cost or how I get my worktop repaired.Looks like I'm going to have to get snotty with Bolo before I'll make any progress...I'd say avoid this purchase on all counts.
