JONES Roman blind sidewinder, fits either left or right side. Gear ratio is is 1:4. This 1:4 ratio is a slow speed operation unit that allows you to lift heavy blinds of up to 8kg in weight. IMPORTANT NOTE - during 2025 Jones upgraded the design of their sidewinders, please see the pictures for the old design this part replaces. No further stock of the old design is available. Jones advise that the redesign 'result is consumers will have to cut the control rod slightly (by 25mm) to make the parts fit into existing cassette systems but these new control units will offer twice the length of service'

First, these work with the Jones roman blind mechanism and fix the "blind falling under its own weight" problem. They will take a lot of pulls as they are a 1:4 gear, so they go up and down slowly. Also, if you originally had a 1:1 sidewinder, you may need to cut off a couple of centimetres of the square rod.These are not Jones original items but copies, so not as many metal parts and no branding on the caps. They do fit perfectly and work, so maybe we shouldn't care!The reason the Jones item fails is the clutch spring slips off centre. A fix might be to add some slim washers on either side of the spring. This would stop it sliding behind the clutch plate. I may 3D print some to try my idea. In the meantime, these items keep the blinds in the desired height. It's a very easy fix, or was for me.UPDATE - If you have a 3D printer I have posted a fix on Thingyverse. Look for Jones Sidewinder. It has solved the problem on our three 1:1 sidewinders so I have these items spare now! Doh!
