Description:

  • OTODUS OBLIQUUS is an extinct genus of mackerel shark. Otodus means ‘ear shaped tooth’ and is derived from the Greek words for ear & tooth. O. obliquus would have measured about 9 metres long. It lived from the Paleocene (66 million years ago) to the Miocene (5 million years ago). Otodus obliquus was a large sea predator eating marine mammals and large fish, it is also the ancestor to the most famous Otodus - O. Megalodon, the biggest predatory shark ever!

My daughter loves dinosaurs, sharks, snakes etc so I'm sure she's going to love this.

Lovely little item. Wish I'd noticed before I wrapped for a gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shark teeth in a little presentation box

    R. · 2 January 2024

A nice few pieces of pre-history which would be a lovely little thing to give someone who likes sharks, or fossils, or both. The teeth are well presented in a little plastic display case with a coloured card background. They'd be framable as they are for an office wall or classroom display. The teeth are clearly teeth. They look real to me. I was surprised at how small they are because popular fiction has us believing that all prehistoric sharks were enormous monsters. A little bit of nonsense for a collector.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, low quality.

These 3 teeth come glued into the case. One of the 3 teeth were glued over the name so we couldn't see what it was and had to remove it from the glue and its now rattling aorund loose in the case. The insert at the back of the case looks like its been printed on a household inject printer and cut and stuck by hand. It has an image of a shark and the name of the 3 species the teeth have come from: Otodus, Sand Tiger and Squalicorax. The back of the case again looks like its been printed at home and is cut and stuck on even worse- its lopsided and too big, the edges are rolled and peeling. It has very basic info on it rgardinge geological age and Location the teeth were found. It says common fossil shark teeth are Sand Tiger, Lemon shark (negaprion) and Otodus. This is confusing as only 2 of these are the sharks we actually have teeth for- it doesn't mention Sqaulicorax at all. We had to look it up to find out it is commonly called crow shark. I would have expected the item to have the level of detail about the sharks that its Bolo page description has but none of this is included at all. The teeth themselves look like reasonable quality fossils but are let down by the packaging/box and lack of info.
