As you can see from my picture, I am painting oil on board with a grey ground.The initial gridding was done with a charcoal pencil, then rubbed out using a putty rubber, and then the elements of the painting added using these white charcoal pencils.They do their job well against an abrasive surface.When it comes to sharpening them I use a manual pencil sharper design for a wider pencil, manual means I can control the pressure and the wider aperture it better for the soft core. Using this means I have had only one snapping of the core and that was my fault, as I went to fast and pushed too hard.In the art class that I attend I have given a couple of packs out to people that have really helped me and they are loving them as previously they were buying packs of three charcoal pencils for one white.

Can't say enough about how good these white pastel pencils are to work with. well worth the money, great to use and if they did them in Black - I Would order from this seller every time.Excellent and good quality too.

These will mark over dark graphite but I found on my drawing, rather than a bright white, the colour had a tint of blue grey which made it stick out from the rest of the details. I've also found them very brittle, when I've tried to sharpen them the quite often break in the sharpener or on the pape itself. I've brought another kind of white pencil that's softer. I am heavy handed because of arthritis.

These Pasler pencils are good, no doubt about that. But they are too expensive. They belnd well, have a good density and are fit for purpose. They are no whiter than the other white charcoal pencils that I tested. The best overall quality that I found was from the Koh-I-Noor set and these are available here on Bolo. I guess Pasler are paying a premium for Bolo sponsored promotion and have to recover the cost somehow. A word of advice: Do NOT use a pencil sharpener. Use a craft knife to sharpen these. Pencil sharpeners break the core. Happy sketching :)

Snaps every time
I purchased these so I could make marks on dark timber at work and I would be able to see my line, however as soon as I tried to sharpen it, the lead would snap before I could even pull it out of the sharpener. I legitimately sharpened one pencil down to half way and was not able to use it once. It snapped every time.Returned for a full refund.
