5.0 out of 5 stars Great Addition for Blink Security System!
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } The Blink Add-On Sync Module 2 has been a fantastic enhancement to my Blink security system! Setting it up was a breeze; I simply plugged it in and followed the easy instructions in the app. This module has significantly expanded the range and functionality of my Blink cameras, allowing for seamless connectivity and improved performance.I love that it supports local video storage, which gives me peace of mind knowing my footage is backed up. The responsiveness of the system has improved as well; I receive alerts promptly, and the video quality is great. If you already have Blink cameras, I highly recommend adding this module to your setup. It’s a reliable upgrade that maximizes the effectiveness of your home security system!
5.0 out of 5 stars Decent alternative to a subscription
I got the sync module 2 after having my blink doorbell and blink mini for over a year. Previously had the blink subscription but didn’t particularly want to pay for another year, so purchased this instead as a money saving option. It was super easy to set up, and is fairly neat and compact in size. If you want the app to save clips, you need to plug a USB into the module. Doesn’t need to be a fancy or special USB, if you have an old one hiding in a drawer somewhere, that’ll do. The module only needs power which can be via plug socket or USB cable (both included in the box) and can be put anywhere in the home as long as it’s got wifi connection. I can now do live view on the doorbell which I couldn’t do before on the blink subscription as my doorbell runs on battery not mains. So that’s a nice bonus.Hilariously, blink/Bolo have added a delay from you clicking on a clip in the app to watch to when it loads, claiming it takes longer to load from USB which is honestly ridiculous in this day and age - I imagine they’ve done this to try and get you to use the cloud annual subscription instead which is very naughty of them. I’m not bothered about the clip loading delay but can see how it might frustrate people, especially if you’ve gone from cloud storage (via the subscription) to local storage (via the module). My only negative is that the module has annoyingly bright blue and green lights on them which is so unnecessary. If you set it up in a room where someone with light sensitivity sleeps, you may want to keep it upside down or get some of those stickers that block the lights.
4.0 out of 5 stars Saves you money ... eventually
This little gadget does, eventually, save you money, but it may take you a year and a half to two years to see that benefit. It's considerably smaller than I thought it would be, but allows you to plug in different sized USB flash drives. Connecting it up while not overly complicated was a challenge for my awful phone, but overall, so far so good.
5.0 out of 5 stars Works fine - so long as you don't connect it to a Guest network
I bought this so video clips could be saved on a USB stick rather than needing to pay for a cloud subscription. In the end it all works fine, but getting it to work took a while. When I first set it all up I found that when I installed a USB stick into the Sync module, I stopped getting motion detection alerts sent to the Blink App and no clips were recorded on the USB stick.I contacted Blink support who suggested rebooting my router. This made no difference. They also suggested removing and re-inserting the USB stick. This made no difference.I'd already tried removing the camera and sync module from the Blink App and adding them again.I noticed that when testing things, if the camera detected motion the blue light flashed (showing it was recording a clip) but then a green light flashed for a while afterwards. After Googling around I saw people mentioning that if the green light on the camera flashes it's having problems communicating with the network, so figured the camera wasn't communicating with the Sync module. Then the penny dropped.I'd originally configured the camera to use a Guest network on my WIFI router and it was fine when used stand alone. On getting the Sync Module I set it to use the use the same Guest network.Devices on the Guest network aren't allowed to communicate directly with each other - they can only communicate with the Internet. However, when the camera tries to communicate with the Sync module to save video clips, it does so using the local network and not via the internet. This meant that the camera couldn't save clips to the USB stick in the Sync Module which also seems to have prevented motion detection notifications being sent to me.I reconfigured the camera and the sync module to use the main network instead of the guest network and now it all works. There is actually a blink support article titled "Possible Local Network Conflicts for Local Storage" that mentions this very problem ... search for "can blink sync module use guest network" to find it.It would have saved some head scratching and time if the Blink App had mentioned not to use a Guest network.
5.0 out of 5 stars Simple easy and live camera working again
Works perfectly and so easy to set up. Can finally access my live view. Connectivity great. £40 is a bit pricey but thankfully I had a £17 voucher so used that to knock down the price to make it vaule for money. Camera good and sound good. Local storage working fine.
