SELFCHECK Gluten Sensitivity Test for Coeliac Disease

Description:

  • Simple and reliable home blood spot test
  • Easy to follow, clear instructions with results in 5 minutes
  • Over 97% accurate when compared to intestinal biopsy
  • Suitable for adults and children over 5 years old
  • CE Certified

  • Safety Information:

Not for internal use. Keep away from children. Store in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight.

    Ingredients:

English Instruction leaflet, foil pouch containing one test cassette and one pipette, sterile automatic safety lancet, plastic tube containing a thin glass tube, plastic tube containing liquid to dilute sample, alcohol swab and plaster.

As accurate as a doctor's or laboratory test, the coeliac disease test kit identifies whether IgA antibodies to tissue transglutaminase (tTG) - a key marker for coeliac disease - are present in a small blood sample taken quickly and easily from your finger tip.

Coeliac disease is a lifelong gastrointestinal disorder caused by a sensitivity to gluten found in wheat, barley and rye. About 1 in 100 people have coeliac disease but most have not yet been diagnosed.

The symptoms of coeliac disease are often confused with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and may include bloating, wind, diarrhoea, malnutrition and skin disorders.

The SELFCheck Gluten Sensitivity Test detects Immunoglobulin A tissue transglutaminase antibodies (IgA tTG) in a finger prick blood drop. A positive result indicates that it is highly likely that you have coeliac disease.

Please note: If you have been on a strict gluten free diet, that is, avoiding all traces of gluten from wheat, barley and rye, for longer than a few weeks, then you may get a negative result with tests for coeliac disease. This includes tests used by your doctor, biopsy and this test. Experts recommend that you should be on a normal gluten containing diet for at least 6 weeks before taking a test for coeliac disease.

Other useful tests include those for thyroid disease and ruling out bowel cancer and h pylori infection.

GP recognised but make sure someone else helps.

First, make sure you're eating and have been eating gluten normally or this test absolutely won't work. The idea of stabbing my own finger was horrifying, but it surprisingly absolutely did not hurt. You also get two stabbers incase you mess up the first. Place the stabber on your finger pad, NOT the side. It doesn't hurt at all but you'll still be trying to wring your finger out of blood whilst collecting it in the weird pipette.I also recommend doing this with another person to assist. The process is a little complicated and between the counting seconds and squeezing blood out of your hand it you might mess it up.It's easy to do and use, it can just be a little complicating to read the instructions as the steps must be done exactly as written. However a really great test, definitely saves waiting a week for GP results and the GP recognises it as a legitimate test which is great. Would definitely use others from this range.

    Pipette doesn’t work

    T.A. · 13 October 2022

It was easy enough to use the lance to draw blood but the pipette just doesn’t suck it up to the black line. The instructions say not to squeeze the bulb so if the pipette doesn’t suck the blood up on it’s own then you’re stuck. Mine didn’t so I literally couldn’t complete the test.

    Ok but expensive

    C. · 14 June 2021

It appeared to work. Exactly how accurate I will never know. Expensive for what it is.

    Easy to use appropriate test

    A. · 8 May 2025

This tests for anti-tissue transglutaminase IgA antibidies, which is what your doctor would test for. Many other tests test for other things that are not appropriate in the diagnosis of coeluac disease. The test was easy to use with good instructions. The lance worked very well and the capillary tube worked fine- you just have to be patient and keep squeezing your finger (not the bulb). I would definitely recommend. I just wanted to check I didn't have coeliac disease before starting a gluten-free diet (you have to eat gluten for 6 weeks before doing this test, so didnt want to find the diet helped but then be unable to check for CD).

Unfortunately there was no pipette in the box so unable to use. Will be returning for a refund.

    Not to difficult to use

    S. · 28 December 2023

Tried this as have been put on gluten free diet by dietician but not convinced that that was my problem. Test shows negative so my thoughts confirmed. Quite simple to use but difficult getting enough blood from finger!

Waste of money in my opinion

    D.I.A. · 22 September 2022

I think you need more than 2 lancets I didn't have enough blood to put in the pipette to touch the black line and I followed the instructions so I had only a drop of blood. It says is negative but can I trust it?Not sure...

    Does what it says

    M.J. · 14 May 2021

I genuinely dont understand the reviews saying waste of money as the lancet or pipette didnt work.I read the instructions and watched the online video (qr code with instructions) and it was simple to use.Result was negative. I am having a benous blood test next week from the GP but wanted to see if this showed anything up first. I will update my review with the results if i can
